Spammers in the wiki
« on: January 15, 2011, 02:16:13 AM »

Having a look to the wiki recent changes, it seems that it is being abused by spammer users. Although those users didn't edit, they will, typical spam procedure.

Are you aware of that?

Regards,
BTK

Yes. But we managed to prevent them from making spam edits in most cases, so it's mainly the user list that gets clogged up. The wiki itself is not hurt. And several people (mainly Vollstrecker) monitor it on a regular basis and revert any spam that gets through.
Maybe Kry can run a script that deletes all users with zero edits some day.

Looking at the changes it doesn't seem like it is working.

It did work for a while. All it takes is updating the spam black list. I could silence them with a click, but then nobody can post external links (at least to .com sites where all the spam goes to atm) anymore unless I white-list it first. Maybe it's worth it.

How comes? It's getting more, but it's working like always. They post, I delete, no problem.

Well, ideally we should combat spam without manual intervention. Of course the manual route is going to work always. And there are swarms of fake users in the wiki/forum. Both are a waste of your time and server space.

Sure, but that's admin stuff. From my point I would like to have a half moderated way. Let's say the first post on wiki has to be approved by a mod before they can do what they want to.
