i am working on an intel based MAC, after downloading the zip file and unpacking it the program crashes, it doesent even install any directories it just dies. i tryied several servers and i tryied both available downloads.
the amule symbol appers for a split second and disapear & the program crashes.
now i know the problem is addressed at the end of this page and i have used the terminal thingy and added the "/Contents/MacOS/amule" and it opened it, but then i got these messeges

my questions are:
1. is there a patch to fix this one command line or am i doomed to open the terminal every time as i have to do right now?
2. why isnt it locatin any servers list or any of the files it should locate? is there a patch for that as well?
by the way this is the string of the terminal at start up:
BENs-MAC:~ Ben$ /Applications/aMule.app/Contents/MacOS/amule

No other instances are running.

This seems to indicate that you're running the PowerPC version of aMule under Rosetta. This is known to be unstable.
Please make sure you have downloaded the Universal Binary version of aMule (for Tiger).
Also, don't worry about the messages in aMule's log about missing files. These files are missing because aMule hasn't gotten around to creating them yet. However, in order to use aMule, you will want to download a server.met file. Click the blue triangle button next to the URL on the ED2K network screen to download a server.met file.

first of all thank you for your help ken
could you tell me please if this is the right file to download since this is what i did download:http://
http://www.amule.org/files/details.php?file=161 (http://)
and if so what will you need in order to locate the problem
thank you again for your help
ben
-
In the Finder, do a Get Info on the aMule application. It should say "Kind: Application (Universal)". Also make sure the checkbox "Open using Rosetta" is not checked.
-
ken again thank you for your help
both of the fetures are ok it is univerasl and rosseta is not checked.
what now?

hello everyone
this is my second attempt to try and solve this issue and i would love to listen to anyone who has a soultion for this problem
first allow me to describe what have i done so far:
i am running an intel based mac with 10.4.7 (tiger), i have downloaded the 2.1.3 universal version of amule
it did not run (crashed at startup), so i used this froum to find the solution:
i used the "Contents/MacOS/amule" fix on the terminal and it styarted the software up but the software didnt want to find any list of servers and continued to cry out that:

Try do add a server try this and connect to:
62.241.53.16:4242
In a matter of seconds you will have your server list full of servers...
Cheers...
EDIT:I guess i missread the thread since i understod amule didnt crash but it did....so the problem must be other than that! Sorry...
-
i got a server list but then it crashed again, what now?
this is the log form the terminal
Current version is: aMule 2.1.3 using wxMac v2.7.0 (Unicoded)
Running on: MacOS (Darwin 8.5.0 Power Macintosh)
anyone????
-
First, I merged the new thread (the above 3 posts) that you had created with this one because both threads seem to be dealing with the same problem and spreading things over multiple threads usually just creates redundancy and confusion.
Speaking of confusion, I'm a little confused about when aMule crashes and when not. You seem to be saying that aMule runs fine when started through the Terminal but not when started through the Finder. Is that correct?
EDIT:
Looks like you have out-posted me. ;)

What this is saying that you are still running aMule through Rosetta emulation (if you have an Intel Mac) or that your Mac is actually not an Intel Mac.
-
thank you lional77
so how can i get rid of the rosseta emulation (as i do believe this is truely an intel based mac). i did check that in the info menue the rosseta box is checked out. and so i am lost for a solution, is that link to the cvs version the solution you are offering or am i making another mistake?
i would also like to add that i find your help to be very proffesional and i thank you for it. hoping to get your reply soon
-
I'm very puzzled -- it should really not be rocket science to run aMule natively on your machine...
I'll try to get my hands on an Intel Mac soon to get an impression of how things work there.
-
good people of this forum, i own a mac book pro intel based 2.16ghz with 2MB of memory, and the latest version 2.1.3 of amule does not run on my mac. if any of you own a mac book or a mac book pro and are successful in running the application please write to me so i will know i am the only one with this problem and i will stop and look for another sharing flies software. thank you very much.

i have exactly the same problem, i've got an Intel-based iMac 10.4.8 Tiger, and amule 2.1.3 won't launch at all after unpacking. the program quits unexpectedly 2 seconds after being opened. it doesn't even create 'amule' folder in the Library. same thing with amule 2.1.2. same thing with CVS - it quits even faster ?( here's the terminal thingy for 2.1.3:

This is so puzzling. Metlob, your backtrace also indicates that aMule runs through the Rosetta emulation on your machine, which it shouldn't.
Just to double check, did you follow ken's advice?
In the Finder, do a Get Info on the aMule application. It should say "Kind: Application (Universal)". Also make sure the checkbox "Open using Rosetta" is not checked.
If that does not fix your problem I can only hope ken stumbles over this thread again soon.
-
yes i forgot to mention that the rosetta box is not checked and the application is universal. i'm really puzzled. the only solution is to get another OS? ;)
-
/me rubs his ken-summoning sheep again

I'm afraid I don't really know what's going on.
The next step in gathering diagnostic information is to get a CrashReporter log. Launch /Applications/Utilities/Console.app. In the toolbar, there's a button labeled "Logs" -- click it. That will reveal a tree-view of the available log files on your computer.
Navigate through that tree to ~/Library/Logs > CrashReporter > amule.crash.log. Press the Clear button on the toolbar. This clears the display, which will make it easier to see what is subsequently written to the log in the following step.
Now, try to launch aMule. It will probably crash just as it has been. When it does, a bunch of stuff should appear in the Console window that's showing amule.crash.log. Copy what appears and paste it to a reply.
Hopefully, that will help us figure out what's happening.
-
sorry for such a long post, i hope that is what you needed. the log you told me to open in Console (~/Library/Logs) was empty from the beginning, so i didn't even have to clear anythinng, and when i tried to launch amule nothing appeared written in it. so i had to use finder for that: i've found amule.crash.log in elenalobanova/Library/Logs/Crash Reporter. but i guess it's the same anyway  sorry for dumbness lol

Hmm. It's crashing when it tries to determine the system language. What language is Mac OS X set to use? Does aMule launch properly if you set the system language to English?
-
Ken, you're a genius :baby: :baby: :baby:
I LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! i had russian language as primary on my computer and after switching it to english and restarting the system amule launched perfectly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish i could hug you :D i would never be able to understand anything in this huge peace of text i pplaced above, lol, thanx god there are people like you who are always trying to help dummies like me ;)
again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH you made my day, you're the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Heh. You're very welcome! :D
I love people who are profusely grateful when we offer workarounds for the egregious bugs in our own software. :)
By the way, if you prefer to keep your system in Russian, you can set aMule's language to English separately in its Preferences. Once you do that, you should be able to set your system language to whatever you like and aMule will still work. I hope.
Anyway, I'm glad we found a way for you to get some joy from aMule.
