Title: When do p2p clients have access to my shared folder and when not?
Post by: ngllgn on March 27, 2007, 02:14:18 PM
I am unclear as to when  p2p clients have access to my shared/public folder and when not. I have therefore listed my questions in a form that each can be answered yes or no, by someone who knows far more than I do.

Can the shared/public folder on my computer be accessed

at any time when I am connected to the internet OR

at any time when I am connected to the internet AND ONLY if I have aMule open

at any time when I am connected to the internet AND ONLY if I have aMule open AND when I am connected to a (current) server (and KAD)

Thank you. Nick

Hi ngllgn:

no
no (/yes - see below)
yes

If you have any sources connected to your computer (e.g. after disconnecting Kademlia and Server, but without closing aMule) your shared files will still be accessible and other users can connect though source exchange (the sources connected to you 'tell' other sources about you)

To say it in your logic:

The shared files are accessible when: your computer is connected to the internet AND aMule is running AND sources are connected to aMule AND/OR you are connected to Kademlia and/or a server

Regards
