Title: Accessing incomplete downloads?
Post by: Justin on October 30, 2007, 06:42:18 AM
If I have a file not completely downloaded, how can I access it? For example, if it is an archive, maybe some of the files inside are complete, so can I somehow open it and get to those complete files? For example if I want to gove up waiting for the rest to download.

Also if it is a video, can I watch the video even if it is not completely downloaded? Just watch the downloaded parts? (I have tried "preview file" before and that never does anything).

Thanks

Hi Justin,

Right-click the file and show the file details. It will show a part file number, something like 003.part. You'll find this file in your temp directory (usually /home/user/.aMule/temp/) and you can try to open it with whatever program you want.
Regarding the preview: Did you set a media player in the preferences?

sebasaque: What are the file permissions on the finished files? aMule uses the default permissions (i.e. the same as if you create a new file), so there shouldn't be any problems.
Where do you store these files? (i.e. on an external hdd)

Great, thanks. Works! Except to  use this method to preview a video file keeps crashing VLC media player.

Regarding the preview: Did you set a media player in the preferences?

Yes I did. I set it to use VLC media player as video player. I has never worked. No error message, no VLC starting, just absolutely no reaction from anything at all, whenever I click "preview file".

Thanks
