Could you please post the output of gcc -v? This looks like a compiler error which has been reported with gcc 4.1 IIRC. Works with gcc 4.2.2 here.

Here ya go...

gcc version 4.1.2 20070925 (Red Hat 4.1.2-33)
Is there a way to force it to use the compat packages?

x0rsw1tch,
checking for autopoint... ./configure: line 8572: autopoint: command not found
no ()
configure: You need to install GNU gettext/gettext-tools to compile aMule with i18n support
-
there was no gettext-tools on yum, gettext was already installed... I tried installing gettext-devel and gettext-libs... didnt help, same compile error.
-
well, you gotta find which one of your distro's packages provides autopoint then.
-
I still insist on blaming the compiler and claim that using either gcc 3.4 or 4.2 would solve this.
-
wuischke is probably right, it seems to be two unrelated problems. I use
$ gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 4.1.3 20071030 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)
And it compiles ok.
-
WTF?!
Okay, this is very wierd. I decided to try and uninstall the current version of gcc I have and use an older gcc... I then gave up after a while after not being able to install the older version due to an endless list of depedancies.
So I reinstalled everything that was uninstalled except for any packages realted to KDE (which I dont use) and eclipse (never got it to work). Tried compiling again, and it worked!
NOTE: I removed useless status text to fit this message.
