Hello,
I'm really sorry if I offend somebody with my posting or come across as stupid - since there are a few postings reg. fake servers, BUT: I've tried all the instructions that deal with fake servers, but it only says: "delete all servers" - how the hack do i do that? They are damn resistant to all my trials to delete them.
Ok, you might need some more infos about my problem:
I'm using Amule 2.1.3 on a Mac OS 10.4.1- I'm aware that there is a newer version of amule, but I wanted to finish downloading a huge file before upgrading (it's 3.5GB, and since my connection is very slow, I'm working at downloading it already for weeks...) because I wasn't sure what would happen to a download that I already started when I upgrade - can I continue with it? Do I have to re-start the whole procedure (Oh no!) so that's why I'm still with the older amule version.
It all worked fine so far. Then I've been away from my computer for a couple of weeks, therefore not connected for quite some time. Upon my return it worked fine for about 10 days. But at some point the porn stuff that turned up doing a search for files just took completely over (10 real files compared to 280 porn files with generic "catch phrases" inserted - ie the keywords from my search...) and than suddenly I couldn't connect to any server. None. All dead.
Ok. I did the research in amule_wiki and in this forum. So it looks like I'm stuck with fake servers. I'm trying to clean up everything and re-start. But I can't erase the fake servers. And I can't donwload a new server list (I've tried the obc_maurice - doesn't work anymore, neither does the peerates-list, than I went to http://gruk.org/server.met.gz and downloaded a server list which is called "server.met" - but what the heck do I do with this file?? How do I insert it into my amule???)
Ok, here I am, completely lost ??? I'm aware, that you computer-crack-guys must think that I'm a complete dumbhead but I really don't know were to look for further info or instruction on how to procede. So if anyone could help me, please?
Thanks very much, I appreciate you're taking the time to help me resolve my problem. Lilly

oh, I forgot: neither does the kad-node thing work. It looks like I'm firewalled since I can't connect... I don't even get 1 (!) result. If it weren't for Christmas and that I know that everybody at the company that provides my internet is on holidays (yes, they're all gone - we're in Italy, haha) I already thought that they might have blocked me for some reason or deleted the port forwarding. But it's rather unlikely, sonce no one is in the office...
Thanks again for your help... lilly

Please understand the 2.1.3 is way in the past and we don't really want to support it anymore.
You can easily update aMule to a newer version - your downloads will be kept intact of course.
I have stopped bothering with servers for a long time - I'm using KAD only. To get it running you have to download a new nodes.dat probably. Current nodes.dat files (either from eMule or aMule) can't be read by your outdated version however so that might me why you didn't get it to work.
-
Thanks Stu Redman! So does that mean, that even unfinished downloads can be picked up again, once I update my amule version? I don't need to start again from zero with the download? Because that would be a real bummer...
-
Yes, that's exactly what it means. :)
-
wow! thanks a lot. ok so I'll update the amule version and try to fix my problem there. Thanks again! I really appreciate your help. :-*

Hello,
I've updated my amule version and tried to follow the instructions laid ahead here. However, when I try to update my IP-Filter, all I get is an error message: "failed to load ipfilter.dat file" and than it tells me the location on my HD where the file is.
Also, after upgrading to the new version, my Kad is firewalled... yes, I did reset the ports to the ones that are forwarded to me and configured everything as stated in various posts in this forum and on wiki... ???
Strange thing is: my upload is working almost normal, download quasi non existent... thank you for helping!
Lilly

Please don't ask for help in the sticky topic. ;)
I think there's no URL for direct IP-Filter update available anymore. You can download one by hand and put it to where the program tells you. But that's not that important anyway.
To which version did you update ? In the SVN version there's additional info in the KAD tab which might be helpfull now. Do you have the Kad UDP port forwarded (and forwarded as UDP) ?
-
Sorry Stu I got carried away reading all those postings and links and looking for a solution to my problem...
I've updated to 2.2.2
why isn't that important anymore? And how and where does the program tell me to put the file ???
...and what is the SVN version? I starting to think that I might loosing my head due to heavy browsing through the amule forum
Just one thing I can answer simply and with assurance: yes! I have the UDP port forwarded (and forwarded as UDP) and it actually worked just fine since 3 days ago, when my amule stopped working altogether
Thanks for your help!

IPFilter does not influence you upload/download directly. It's meant to lock out bad guys who might be spying on you if you share illegal stuff (which you shouldn't of course). If it works depends very much on if the bad guys are in the filter's list or not. If they are halfway competent bad guys they won't be, so it's all for vain.
SVN version is the latest development snapshot. But there's no current binary for Mac available I'm afraid, so forget about it.
If you port suddenly stopped working it may be your provider blocked it. Try a different one (which needs to be forwarded too of course).
How many nodes do you have in the Kad window ?
-
I have 792 nodes in the Kad window.
I doubt that my provider has blocked me. I live in Italy which means right now there is no one working at the provider's office - even in case there is some technical trouble I doubt that I could reach anybody. I know because it has already happened to me before, more than once. Which is why I can't try another port either, since I have to communicate with them and ask them to open it up and forward it (as I did before in order to make it work in the first place).
- I'm living in the mountains where normal DSL is not available so I'm using an internet that is cell phone based with an antenna. Just in case you wonder why everything is a little different and strange with my connection in comparison to a regular DSL where I'd be able to port forward myself.
Any other ideas why it could have stopped working? Or where I should look into? Thanks a lot. Your help is greatly appreciated!
-
Have you tried the Port Test (http://www.amule.org/testport.php) ?
-
Geeeez... why didn't I get the idea myself! You're right - it's not forwarded properly... so I guess I've got to wait till the holdiays are over to get ahold of someone at the provider's office to fix it. Thanks!
-
Could also be a change in your firewall settings. Did you get some system update ? (Don't know if there are such things on Mac.)
-
Yes! I actuallz did an update... but how could that be? I don't have a firewall... could that be a security update from Apple that somehow screws up my ports?? :-\
-
try these two nodes:
http://upd.emule-security.net/server.met
http://upd.emule-security.net/nodes.dat
hope it will help
-
See here (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=15901.0) for some more input from Mac users. I can't explain it, but you could still try it. ;)
-
Thanks FreeToGo thanks Stu Redman... unfortunately neither of the suggestions proofed to be the remedy... strange things happen... I have still no clue what caused this behaviour with my amule... looks like the possiblities are vast - maybe my latest security update from Apple? I'll try to go back and erase it and see what happens... and in case you stumble across some other options that might have caused my ports not to be forwarded properly any more, I'll appreciate your suggestions... thanks for your kind help

You updated aMule if I understand correctly from how this thread went. Leopard has a firewall you need to verify when updating the program, as it digitally signs the applications. Google for "leopard firewall" or look around this forum if anyone actually posted information about it.
-
I am confused. If updating amule could not help, have u tried deleting your old/obsolete config files in your user directory?
In linux, something like
mv ~/.aMule ~/.aMulebackup

@ Kry: I'm still running on Tiger... 10.4.11 - which is why it's so bizarre that things stopped working... i haven't changed anything on my Mac, besides some ssecurity update on Max OS 10.4 that they issue regularly on the Apple website. I'm trying to get rid of it now, incase that that's the culprit. But I don't see how I can without deleting everything + starting from scratch... arghhhhh... and I don't even know if that is what has caused the problem since I have had several updates since I run amule and it never caused any problems of this kind
Also: last night I figured, that I try to connect to ED2K since Kad works not very well and gives me this "firewalled"-thing. Before, I wasn't connected to any server & the list was empty. I went with http://gruk.org/server.met.gz, got 4 servers, all of which look like I could trust them (eDonkey Servers and Peerates). But now it ceased to work completely. I can't connect to any of the servers. Kad shows me 648 nodes & firewalled. But instead of progessing slowly, the upload shows 0.1 and the download 0.0. And all the files I try to download are red. And no one is downloading the files I share. I've removes all servers. Closed amule. Opened & connected again. Nothing changes. Only me, becoming really desperate :'(

rm ~/.amule -Rf
Don't. You might be killing your downloads as well if they are located in the .amule dir.
@Kry: first it stopped working (that's why she posted), then she updated aMule because I suggested it (she was using 2.1.3).
@Lilli: Tiger has a firewall too. Try to turn it off, see here (http://www.macobserver.com/tip/2006/04/14.1.shtml).
-
Thanks Stu. I checked it. It's turned off.
My files are on an external disk. Do I still risk to erasing them?
Can I get back to the slow and firewalled Kad at least by erasing amule and re-installing it? Because now it's plain dead :(
Thanks for your help! Lilly

As long as you don't erase your temp files there is no danger. (They are often in a subfolder to .aMule, that's why I warned you.)
Erasing the whole content of .aMule will do want you want by "reinstalling".
