Title: Installation of aMule 2.0.0rc7
Post by: hruotland on October 20, 2004, 04:16:05 PM
Hello!

I have rc6 installed and want to upgrade. I compiled rc6 myself for Slackware 9.1. In the rc7 announcement for the *.rpms it says "NOTE:You must use BOTH aMule and wx packages provided here, and desinstall all other previous wx and aMule packages to avoid conflict." I assume that means that even if you aren't using the *.rpms but are compiling your own you should uninstall wxBase-2.4.2 and wxGTK-2.4.2 as well as aMule rc6 before beginning. Is that right?

It should be obvious that I'm a newbie. Thanks for any help!

Hi,

Re-read the announcement another time ! :)

"NOTE:You must use BOTH aMule and wx packages provided here, and desinstall all other previous wx and aMule packages to avoid conflict."

is for Mandrake RPM which use 2.5.3 wx, which will conflict if u have 2.4.2.

To resume: aMule is compiled against wx, so the couple amule+wx must agree at compilation time AND installation time.

If u compile urself, no prob

If u install package, u must avoid couple mismatch between wx and amule

Thanks much, I did as you said and it's working fine.  :baby: I had looked at the INSTALL file in the sources, saw that it said something about wx there too, and panicked. You'd be amazed how obscure this stuff can seem to non-techies!
