Some ISPs block access to port 4661 making impossible to contact any ed2k server. Lugdunum already released an emule mod which allows the client to connect to the auxiliary ports (80, 110, 443, etc.) of ed2k servers. Emule plus also included this possibility in their latest clients. It would be nice to see support for auxiliary ports on amule.

I always thought that amule can connect to any port on ed2k server - one that listed together with it's address in "servers".
Am I wrong ?

yes it can...
you can set your port in preferences...and use anyone you like
except if you are not "root" then you have to have a port higher then 1023..
btw Lugdunum releases the ed2k server software, so I think there is a way to setup a ed2k server at port 80 etc...

I think lfroen is right, as a client there are no restrictions on the number of the destination port. Anyway, this is something easy to test, just find a server with these low ports and test it.
BTW, this is not to be confused with what stefanero is saying, one thing is the server port, which is configured on the servers tab when you add it manually there, the other thing is the aMule TCP port, which should also be configured to something your ISP does not block. On the aMule TCP port you must be root to listen to anything below 1024. If the ISP is blocking aMule TCP port (4662 by default) you will get a lowid. If the ISP is blocking 4661, you will not be able to connect at all to those servers which use this port.
Cheers!

Amule can connect to any port of an ed2k server only if it is the MAIN port of this particular server. But It can't connect to an AUXILIARY port of an ed2k server. Let me give you an example.
Razorback2 (195.245.244.243) works on port 4661 as its main port. Any amule client (which is not blocked by its ISP) can connect to this port. But Razorback2 also accepts incoming conections on its "auxiliary ports" 80, 110, 443. The problem is that you cannot connect to these ports by simply changing the settings in your amule's servers list. If you try do do this you will get a message saying "Lost connection..." or "Only updated clients can connect to auxiliary ports". You can only connect to auxiliary ports if you are using particular emule mods (like emule plus or lugdunum emule mod) which support this feature. What I'm saying is that it would be a good idea to include this feature in amule. Otherwise people with bad ISPs will have a lot of trouble trying to find an ed2k server with a main port they can access.

Ereth,
I see, this is a new feature then. Maybe Kry can talk to lugdunum about the specs of this auxiliary port.
Cheers!

Guys, don't try so hard to figure out what Ereth wants - just take a look at http://forum.amule.org/thread.php?threadid=1411&sid=.
Ereth, this has been already asked, but we were lazy bones.
This feature will be included in 2.0.0 hopefully, or 2.0.1. Just be patient. :)

Thanks, Gonosz. That's exactly what I'm talking about.
