not really a feature request...
in the client details popup window i feel that "upload" and "download" are interchanged. this regularly confuses me. i believe general semantics is that i "download" from others and "upload" to others. This is also as it is viewed at at other places in amule. in the client details popup this is reversed.

it is not really reversed. you see some client's details, not your own client. thus "uploaded" means how much that client uploaded to you and "downloaded" means how much you downloaded from that client.

I think you mean "how much the client downloaded from you" instead of "how much you downloaded from that client" else, you're saying the same twice, and the numbers should be the same :P
Regards.

thus, the direction can actually never be reversed. just pick the word you prefer and adjust your point of view accordingly. ;)
fact is, it is confusing me this way. it would be easier to always keep the same point of view (mine) than to change it at certain places for whatever reason.
both is correct, but one way is easier to catch. just like instructions for use, where you should note all steps in the right sequence and not sometimes reversed, using the word "after" or so.

I absolutely support your point here, m2kio, this is just plain irritating. IIRC it is the same in emule, but there is no need to copy bad habits from your parents...
-
As said, the problem is that Uploaded/Downloaded can be read to be from either the POV of the local or the remote client. Do you have any suggestions as how to phrase the label so that it is more apprent what is what? Or would switching the labels be enough?
-
just revert "up" and "down", i think.
... m2kio !
btw: a 2nd line "Currently uploading" -- erm, then probably "Currently downloading" -- for the other direction could be added.
-
"Currently Downloading" should probably be "Requested File".
-
I don't agree reversing it.... it's done that way on eMule and every aMule, swapping them will only add more confussion now.
-
By swapping it, we will be matching the actual upload-queue. Anyway, this is the result, which also adds some cleanups to the dialog.
EDIT: Forgot to note that I had forgotten to swap upload/download rate on that pic. I was to lazy to make another screenshot.

Do you realize we can't know what you did to the values without knowing them?
-
Do you realize that you could just read the thread and easily guess exactly what I did? :P

@ Kry:
i feel it can't be more confusing than right now. ;)
@ Xaignar:
only use lowercase "k" for "kilo".
"download rate" and lots others: 2 words
why now all words starting with caps?
"Requested file" is good in regard that transfer may not be currently in progress, but it's worse as it does not indicate the direction. "Requested from me" or "On queue for upload: " sounds good ;) might be relabeled when actually uploading to "Currently uploading: ".

Habbit. Will fix.

"File requested by client" might be better, but I don't think I'll bother to do the switch to "uploading" when we upload, at least not now.
-
k: the screenshot says: "Upload (Session): 400 KB"
label: "... by peer".
ok, we probably waste too much time here. 8)

Swapping them with no change to specify who uploads to who will be MUCH worse. Lot of people is sued to the current way.

hm, if they are sued for the current way, then swapping is utterly required. :P
but i anticipate a typo here. :))
then change the box heading to "Transfer to peer". i thought it superfluxous, but it may clarify the direction of view. anyway the places stay the same, so those people may not even notice the change of wording.
-
I might agree to that.
-
And what about having a preferences option (in GUI tweaks, maybe) to select the POV of the client details dialog? It should default to the old behaviour, but users could change it to their accustomisation.

no, not really. custumization down to the color of the last bit is no real option. Little gain at the cost of added complexity and even another source for confusion. IMHO. imagine s.o. reporting a problem and noting values from this window.

Agreed, an option for this would only make things even more confusing.

Scary.

I'm scared of it too :]
But, maybe a custom skin can change this.
(Notes:[list=1]
- I don't know anything about how skin support (will) work
- Just another idea ;)
