Hello developer team.
do you can to implement, this functions in next cvs or after 2.0 final ?
Load fakes.dat, for look fakes ed2k link in download section
ip-to-country.csv for look flag country in download and upload sections.
Bye :)
-
Fakes.dat support would be an useful feature, however, the same cannot be said for ip-to-country.csv and as such you shouldn't expect it to be implemented any time soon.
-
it's not useful, but sure it can be funny. This is the only reason I like using the morphxt mod, because I enjoy seeing all the tiny flags next to the people I connect to (or connect to me)
Regards.
-
imo ip-to-country would be nice too
-
should amule be usefull or an eye-candy ala. windows appz? :P
-
oh yes, the actual answer was in choosin' wxwidgets instead qt (wich also supports mac)
or you gonna make amule 2.0 shareware??

Did you notice that the name of the project starts with 'a' and not 'x' ?

What i was thinking of:
Sometimes (or actually.. a LOT lately) when i download movies, they're French or German.
Most of the time i can find out by looking at the available sources, which says .fr or something. But it also happens that it's just moviename.avi and then you'll just have to wait till you've downloaded the movie to find out what it is.
By using geoip (iirc) you can map ip's to a country. If i could see that the sources of "little mermaid.avi" are 95% german i know i probably don't want that file.
Also you can choose files which have lot's of sources in your country to "help" your country's downloaders and also your own download speed.
In short, i think it could be useful. Is there a possibility this could be in amule 2.1 or something?

I'm sorry but doesn't that sound a bit .. discriminating? What if i want a file which isn't in my country? You would be giving credit or priority depending on a user's country or location, rather than priority to high uploaders or those who deserve it.
And what next? people blocking me from downloading just because i'm in a country they don't really like? To me, it defies the meaning of p2p and file sharing...

What i meant is that connections in your own country will probably be faster. I didn't mean blocking/banning other people. Anyway maybe that was a bad example.
The primary reason for me was to see if a movie is shared by 90% german people, i probably don't want it. It's something i see more and more lately, movie with french/german/italic speech. Pretty annoying imo.

I see what you mean, but still, there's a high possibility that it would be mis-used. I mean try to weight the good and the bad sides of it. As for the language problem, if you ask me, it should be more of a responsibility of the person who'se sharing the file himself, rather than the client. Either through mentioning the langugage in the file name (en, dk, ar, etc..), or adding comments for others to view.
-
What I do is enable "download first and last chunks first" and then run the .part file through mplayer after 5-10 MBs are completed.Usually that is enough to check what language the file is in and although that still wastes bandwidth and requires you to check your files periodically,it is still better than downloading the entire file and then finding out. Also many releases will have at least a group name or a crc(I think thats the right term) that you can check up through google. It should be pretty obvious that the file is a french release,if the results are all french pages. Also I have found that generally, the english releases will likely have less sources then the french and german releases,so don't just pick the one at the top of the list as its a good chance it won't be in english.

Yes, it would be very nice to see the country flag of connected users.
It's just interresting to know.
I saw that on mldonkey that uses geoip.dat.
Please implement that, too!
-
Uh... no?

I don't see the bad thing in making aMule beautiful. Ok, it has to be useful, and it is, and maybe country flags aren't top priority, and that's ok with me, but why discard this request with words like "we don't want it like it is in Windows"? If that's the case, why you even bothered to write a gui? If aMule is eye-candy, it's easier to use. Sometimes computer guys dont' remember that programs are used even by non-computer guys.
-
Imho Country flags are just a gimmick and not an 'eye-candy'.
I like a beautiful and functional gui as well, but if you have too many gimmicks or information everything just gets unclear and actually harder to use. Sure, I might just disable the flags column if I don't want it, but that's not what you've meant with easy-to-use.
-
wuischke, did you read Mon's posts? He says he uses the flag to figure out better if the video is in his own language. And on eMule I was used to do that as well.
Many people cheat about the filenames, many cheat about the comments. If I want a file in Italian, my native language, and most users are italian, probably it's the file i'm searching for even if filename is [DivX GER] and the comments say "german language"...
I think this would be really helpful... it is already on eMule.

you only need a block or 2 to preview and see if they speak the desired language.
also handy to see if it's even what it said it was :(
if you do then the best preview player would be mplayer.

country flag for servers would be very usefull, gives you an idea if it may be a honeypot!
i block all servers from 83.xx.xx.xx - they all claim to be porn and then spam the chat function.
damned israeli's! :(
-
That's what you get for trying to get porn!
