Title: ed2k link helper
Post by: misscloud on April 02, 2005, 10:55:23 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm new here and with aMule also. I hope someone could help me with this ed2k link issue:

- if I copy to clipboard and paste into handler area, it doesn't work (could be the long link question, how can I break into lines?)
- on PCs all you have to do is click and the link goes to download area, is there something equal for mac?
- and last but not least, what browser should I use, I can't configure Safari or Netscape 'till now.

 ?(

Tons of thanks 4 someone that can help....

Miss Cloud

The latest binary build of Mac aMule (http://forum.amule.org/thread.php?threadid=5051) has support for using ed2k links from browsers.  Unfortunately, common browsers on the Mac (Safari and Firefox have been tested) have idiosyncracies which make it harder to get it to work than it should be.

The steps to get it to work are:

Now, the program that helps aMule handle ed2k links is known to the system.

If you use Safari, you will have to drag the link to the location field every time.  For unclear reasons, Safari will not process ed2k (or other non-Apple protocol) links if you click on them.

If you use Firefox, clicking on an ed2k link will work.  The first time, for security purposes, Firefox will present a dialog asking if you want to allow the helper program to run.  (Yes, even though the OS already asked you the same question. )  After that, it will work just as you would expect.

Lionel77 and I haven't tested with other browsers, but they should work in some fashion after you go through the magic voodoo, above.  Report your results here!

I've decided to split the help requests about the ed2k link helper into a separate thread. Otherwise this sticky thread would become too bloated.

The new thread is:
