Hi. I'm connected to LAN, so i want to cooperate with other local people and download files faster without wasting traffic to download one piece many times. eMule Plus has Lancast functions, it finds other eMPs running by sending broadcast packets. And because many peoples are still using eMP, Lancast port will be very actual feature. I'm sure that i can port lancast to aMule, but iam just wannabe coder, so it will take too much time for me.

I wonder why request for Lancast (http://wiki.emule-web.de/index.php/Lancast) was ignored.
Because of "legal issues" (as webcache) ?

Don't know about Window, but on Linux/Unix platforms you can't send broadcast or multicast packets without root access. Similarly you can't receive such packets without root access too (IIRC).

Not heard of that restriction, where can I read about it?

In google.

So what about lancast, regardless of reasons?
Will or Won't?
Personally, I think that lancast (with kad) are important (or may be the only) factors that could stop the decline in popularity of ed2k. Otherwise ed2k will die completely over the next few years.

I like when conversation going like this:
Q: Can you do X
A: No, it's impossible due to Y
Q: So, will you do it?
A: #@$

I don't even want to ask, why you need P2P to share files over LAN. Samba/NFS is suddenly not enough? Do you happen to know that multicast is turned off on most switches, and forwarded only for very special purposes (P2P is not one of them)?
And btw, in some parts of the world, ed2k is more popular that torrent. Not everyone lines in North America/Western Europe.

can't connect 2 machines in lan(192.168.0.0/24) over kad.... amule just says: "can't connect lowid to lowid"
does it really hard to make it over kad?

I adition to this, this changes are not transparent and encapsulated as they should.
Yeah, sure. :D

If both machines are correctly connected (with HIGH id) they can connect to each other as well.
And if you just want to transfer some files from one machine to the other in an intranet there might be easier ways than a P2P app...

There are several topics on the eMule forums discussing why Kad doesn't usually work on LAN (well, at least not with that low number of clients).
