Hi,
I'm working on the Dutch translation of aMule.
-
thanky ;)
-
I read that you might release version 1.2.5 on Sunday. So here is a beta version of the translation. It's finished, but I'm not entirely happy with every translation. So it can be included in version 1.2.5 if it'll be released soon.

Is it just me or is the Dutch (nl.po) translation not build?
From the Makefile:
POFILES = en.po es.po de.po fr.po it.po ko.po pl.po ee.po ru.po bg.po es_MX.po pt_BR.po gl.po eu.po
GMOFILES = en.gmo es.gmo de.gmo fr.gmo it.gmo ko.gmo pl.gmo ee.gmo ru.gmo bg.gmo es_MX.gmo pt_BR.gmo gl.g
mo eu.gmo
UPDATEPOFILES = en.po-update es.po-update de.po-update fr.po-update it.po-update ko.po-update pl.po-updat
e ee.po-update ru.po-update bg.po-update es_MX.po-update pt_BR.po-update gl.po-update eu.po-update
DUMMYPOFILES = en.nop es.nop de.nop fr.nop it.nop ko.nop pl.nop ee.nop ru.nop bg.nop es_MX.nop pt_BR.nop
gl.nop eu.nop
nl.po isn't listed there.
-
Maybe add nl to LINGUAS file...
-
Fixed on CVS, thaks for the report
-
here the newest strings file -> http://www.amule.org/amule/attachment.php?attachmentid=181&sid=
greets
-
Here is the nl.po from the new source_strings.
I'm only doubting about the translation of 'Reconnect'. I can translate that into 'Verbinding Verbreken', which contains so much characters that it messes up the GUI. I can also translate it into 'Verbinding\n Verbreken', which contains two lines and therefore messes up the GUI.
Which of these two would be the best?
btw. The tooltip for the 'Preferences' button ("Preferences Settings Window") is missing in the file with strings.
-
Latest version of the translation.
-
I just noticed that the above file isn't the latest version of the translation.
The attached file from this message is.
-
thanky :)
found a small typo:
nl.po:2878: »msgstr« ist ein ungültiges Formatelement C, im Vergleich zu »msgid«. Grund: Im 1. Formatbefehl ist das Zeichen » « keine gültige Konvertierangabe.
lines 2878-2879
msgid "Server connection refresh interval %i mins"
msgstr "Server verbinding verversingstijd %1 mins"
%1 -> %i
greets
-
%1 -> %i
I switch 1's and i's more often.
Anyway I've changed it now in the latest translation. Thanks.
-
Update of source_strings.po of 10-04-2004.

btw. I found a little typo in the previous version. Here is the version without the typo.
-
np, thanky :)

Guess what, that typo (actually it's a grammar mistake, but typo sounds better) was also on an other place.
So, here again an update.
[edit]I found a typo again (a real typo this time). I'll look trough the file in a few days to check all the translations. I've posted the new translations file, so it can be included in rc3.[/edit]
-
This forum doesn't update the date if you edit a post?
Anyway I've posted a new translations file above.
-
Hey!
I just upgraded to version 2.0 rc2 and noticed the line breaks on the buttons make it impossible to see the lower half of for instance the word "verbreken"
May I suggest changing the button texts to single line texts? (Perhaps just use "Verbreken" instead of "Verbinding verbreken" for instance?)
Maybe it's also possible to do this some other way.
If I can help in any way to improve the dutch translation for aMule, leave me a message on my forum: http://www.7135.tk (to mods: this is my non-commercial site, about me, GNU/Linux, etc.)

I know. I first translated it without line breaks but then the button became very wide, so that wasn't too good for the UI either. It might be better to change it into "verbreken" only.
btw. If you resize aMule's window the UI is rebuilt and the word "verbreken" is completely readable after that.
btw2. In what sub-forum on your forum do you want to me to post?
btw3. Actually this post should be in [BUGS in NL translation] (http://www.amule.org/amule/thread.php?threadid=984&sid=). But that topic is so low on the list I understand you didn't notice it.
-
You're correct I didn't notice that.
You don't have to post on my forum, but I will make some more categories. :-)
-
Oooh, you wanted me to sent you a pb on your forum.
-
A new version of the Dutch translation. Two translations have been modified in this version.

I don't know if this is specific for the dutch translation (I don't think so), but here in aMule 2.0.0rc6 the 'menus' in "preferences" aren't translated everything else is (see image):
Anyone knows the cause of this? (they are translated in the nl.po file)
-
Well kry must have changed it after i posted the source_strings.po from cvs ...
I dont want to change it every day, or people will not know what source_strings.po use
But, u can have one up to date by doing on cvs (or on rc6) :
cd po/
mv amule.pot amule.pot.old
make amule.pot
mv amule.pot source_strings.po
mv amule.pot.old amule.pot
then translate source_strings.po and post me it
Better, if u want to be really really up to date, do before that:
cd amule-cvs
grep '_(' `find * -name "*.cpp"` | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u > po/POTFILES.in
to generate a new po/POTFILES.in
I explain: "make amule.pot" generate the new source_strings.po, but it is better to keep the old one in the tree to avoid recompiling all translations files which take a lot of time

I need the cvs version for that?
-
not cvs version, just a verion posterior to the current source_strings.po, rc6 if u want or a cvs tarball.
Thepolish
-
And when I use amule cvs I have to use "cd amule-cvs" and if I use rc6 then I have to use "cd aMule-2.0.0rc6"?
-
yes, the directory where expand the archive. you go at the top dir of the amule source tree.
But if it is too complicated, wait a bit, i will post a new source_string soon, as rc7 is comming fast :)
Thepolish
-
It isn't too complicated (I'm very good in copy-pasting ;)).
It's just that I've tar-bzipped the source directory of aMule (so, I still have it to uninstall aMule), as the hard drive of my computer is constantly full. That is since I installed aMule ;).

thanks :)))
jacobo@Soofa:~/aMule/amule-dev-cvs/po$ make nl.gmo
rm -f nl.gmo && /usr/bin/msgfmt -c --statistics -o nl.gmo nl.po
1354 translated messages.
-
Update of 5-4-2005.
btw. In my translation I've already fixed the typo ("nackups").
-
thanks :)
[~/aMule/amule-dev-cvs/po]$ make nl.gmo
rm -f nl.gmo && /usr/bin/msgfmt -c --statistics -o nl.gmo nl.po
1399 translated messages.
the nackups prob will be fixed after release, so that translations apply correctly. But thanks for taking the care for it ;-)
ehm did i forget something? oh, yes: THANKS! :-D
-
So, have you changed it back in my translation to nackups?
Else it won't apply correctly.
-
yes, don't worry ;)
-
A few changes in the translation.

I've lost my internet connection at home. I can only connect from my university and I don't have CVS access from here so I cannot commit. I told Kry to do so, but seems like he's on other stuff. I'll tell stefanero right now and hope he does so ;-)
sorry for the delay, but I can't do any more :-(

updated... :)

I understand. I was just wondering.
-
I didn't have much time, that's why it took a while. But here is the updated Dutch translation from the source strings of 4-aug-2005.
[edit]Fixed a little mistake in the translation.[/edit]

Why is there no dutch forum?
-
Update of 23-11-2005.
-
thnx a lot, I was out for the weekend...
translation is tomorrow up2date
-
Made two small adjustments to the translation. I thought I'd upload it already, so I can't forget to change it at the next translation.
-
wups added
-
I finally had time to finish the translation of the source_strings from 9 Mar 2006. I also fixed the translation of a tooltip that wasn't correct.
-
I've started the Dutch translation of the latest aMule version.
-
Attached is the translation for aMule 2.2.0
-
Dank u wel, included in aMule now.
-
I've read through nl.po and found a surprising number of typo's and a lot of comments (old translations?) at the end of the file. I deleted all the comments and changed numerous lines. I had some trouble mixing the ISO-8859-1 from the file with the UTF8 from kbabel, but I believe I fixed everything, so it should all be ISO-8859-1.
The endresult is attached
-
I haven't looked at the complete diff, but I only found about 10 typos (the comments (old translations) are added automatically when a translation file is merged with an older version).
In the other lines you've changed you only added some line breaks at a random location (you even changed them in the English text).

I'll admit, this is my first time po-editing and numerous might have been an slight exaggeration, some were just translations that others might not have found worthy of translation (directory --> map, redirected --> omgeleid)
But the line-breaks are in the old .po, I removed I a lot of them by hand later using kwrite after using kbabel to walk through the translations. I count seven instances where I indeed removed linebreaks in the English text.
Looking back I do see that I totally screwed up the encoding, so I guess I will have to fix that. Are you guys close to releasing 2.2.0, or can it wait till next week?
-
This can wait till next week, we're using the old version in the meanwhile.
-
I'll admit, this is my first time po-editing and numerous might have been an slight exaggeration, some were just translations that others might not have found worthy of translation (directory --> map, redirected --> omgeleid)
The reason I used 'directory' instead of 'map' has to do with my dislike of the word 'map' (traumatic event in my youth, don't ask ;)), besides 'directory' is a Dutch word according to vandale.nl (http://www.vandale.nl/opzoeken/woordenboek/?zoekwoord=directory) :)
The word 'redirected' should have been translated, but I don't remember having seen that word. I think that translation was done by the other Dutch translator (about a year ago there were two Dutch translators).
-
OK, so it took a bit longer than a week, but I went through nl.po by hand now. Removed some linebreaks (both in English and in Dutch bits), made a few more changes and doublechecked encoding.
I'm aware of the 'map' vs 'directory' discussion, but wasn't aware 'directory' is in the so called 'groene boekje'.
I have the following now: where the English bit says 'dir' or 'directory' it says the same in Dutch. Where it says 'folder' in English, it says 'map' in Dutch.
I'm building the 20071015 tarball now with my latest nl.po, to check if my linebreak-removal didn't break something else. If nothing funny turns up I'll upload my nl.po tomorrow.
edit:
I merged my file with the latest amule.pot (couldn't find source_string.po). That has some weird line-breaks too, probably something to do with line length. Anyway I took that as a guide for one last check, translated some extra bits and switched the file to utf-8 (it was still in ISO-8859-1). My builds look OK, but a strange symbol might have been left behind somewhere as a result of the switch (I doubt it though).
The result is attached
-
Thanks, I've commited the translation.
-
I've added the plural form header (I hope I've placed it at the right location) and I've changed the translation of a word.
-
Please do not zip the translation, but attach the po file. You'll save me some seconds when testing and committing the translation.
Thank you.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the translation, I've committed it.
-
Since the status on http://www.amule.org/translations/current_status.xml hadn't changed since quite some time, I thought I might contribute towards a completed Dutch translation. I attached the completed nl.po. It might be good to have Supersnail or another Dutch translator take a look at it, since this is my first attempt at something like this.
-
Your help is much appreciated and as far as I can tell (I can read a bit of Dutch, but have never learned it) the translation is well-done, too. Thank you, committed. :)
-
The translation seems to be good, although I noticed a few glitches (like missing dots at the end of a string). A bigger problem, however, is that you used the informal translation of "you", while I used the formal translation (which one is preferred btw? I saw that the German translation uses the informal translation, while the French translation uses the formal one).
-
Well, that's actually a difficult question. I try to avoid direct questions and use a passive instead, if possible. (For instance: Do you really want to close aMule? -> Should aMule really be closed?)
I think the formal form is used more in France than it is used in Germany and I don't believe anyone would feel offended if a program addressed this person using the informal form in German.
Thus, it is ok to use the informal form (I think for Dutch, too), but only if the complete translation uses the informal form. Because you started the translation with the formal form already, I suggest sticking to the formal translation.
-
Fair enough. To keep the formality consequent, I changed all 'je' to 'u'. Also added some dots where missing.
On a side note, I try to avoid passive sentences as they tend to affect readability.
-
Dankuwel (dank u wel?) !
I'm used to academic language and I teach German for fun (I wanted to study languages, but decided against it.) - passive forms can't shock me anymore. ;)
No, seriously: As translator, one should actually translate as close to the original as possible. But I value understandability higher than closeness to the original and change the translation a bit or add some words to avoid ambiguous meanings, provided that the content doesn't change.
-
Updated the Dutch translation to the latest version of the POT file.
-
Thanks a lot for the update, committed!
-
The board referred to in the news (http://forum.amule.org/index.php?board=78.0) doesn't seem to exist (An Error Has Occurred!
The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.)
So, I have attached the updated Dutch translation of 2.2.2rc1 here.
-
Committed, thank you.
-
Latest update.
-
Committed, thank you!
-
I'm running the SVN version and I have improved the Dutch translation.
-
Thank you, committed. :)
And just to make our developers (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=5394.msg88328#msg88328) happier, a random tidbit of poetry (By de la Barca (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Calderón_de_la_Barca), the only Spanish author I can freely quote...):
What is life? A fury.
What is life? An illusion,
a shadow, a fiction.
And the greatest good is small:
That the whole life is a dream.
And dreams dreams are.
-
Another update, fixed a typo and made the translations more consistent.
-
I'm sure dutch people will enjoy it. Committed.
-
Translated the one missing string according the translation statistics page.
-
Thanks to you, we'll have a release with a 100% Dutch translation. :)
-
I just noticed a small typo (one letter) in the translation. Attached is an updated version.
-
This is an update for the 2.2.x branch. I'll save it in case we'll have a 2.2.7...

(shudder)
-
After more than 120 days an updated Dutch translation.
-
Luckily it didn't take that long to commit it. Thanks.
-
Translated the missing two translations and three fuzzy translations.
-
Will be in the release. Thank you.
