Title: New Asturian translators team
Post by: astur on December 18, 2008, 03:21:42 PM
Hi, I'm Astur. I'm a member of Softastur www.softastur.org (http://www.softastur.org) and member of Asturian Translators Team in Launchpad. ( https://edge.launchpad.net/~malditoastur (https://edge.launchpad.net/~malditoastur) )

I would like to do the asturian translation for aMule. (language code ast  (ISO 639-2)  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-2_codes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-2_codes)    )

I have download the amule.pot file placed in the bottom of the page http://amule.uw.hu/translations/ (http://amule.uw.hu/translations/) and I've used the following command to create the po-file:

msginit --input=amule.pot --locale=ast

So I have a new file named ast.po

Then I've edited the ast.po file with PoEdit... In "Settings" I changed the plural form, in our case: nplurals=2; plural=(n != 1);

And saved the file. What's the next step? (and followings steps... ;) )

Well, first of all thanks for your initiative, making aMule available in your language.

The next step is when you made some progress, attach the .po file to a post in this thread (just like the others do).
Following steps: finish translation, regularly check the translations page (http://amule.uw.hu/translations/) and keep your translation up-to-date. ;)

This file is correct? Have a formatting error? It's just to see if it works well before continue doing. I would not like having to repeat it when it's 100%. Can you upload it? Thanks

Code: [Select]
$ msgfmt --statistics ast.po
203 translated messages, 1343 untranslated messages.
Everything is just fine.

Gonosz, how do I go about a missing wx language constant for Asturian? Do I ask the wx devs nicely to include it (the right thing to do™, but means support only in their next release), do I create a custom constant or should I hack the constant to be equal to wxDefault?

astur: There are currently some technical problems preventing Asturian from being included into aMule. Therefore I believe we won't be able to include the Asturian translation into aMule 2.2.3, but in aMule 2.3.0 and of course in developmental (trunk) versions.
Your current translation is using the strings for 2.2.3. I'll convert it and you'll find a translation file at http://amule.uw.hu/translations/trunk Please use this file for future translations. If you have made any advancements using the 2.2.3 file, please post this file and I'll convert it.

Thank you!

Hi,
I'm sorry because I can't read your message before....
I've made some progress with the file, (40% made) so I post it here. I hope it's not too late and you can convert it.

Thanks

Hi Astur,

thank you for the update. I've converted it to SVN format and you can find the current file at http://amule.uw.hu/translations/trunk , look for Asturian (ast) and click on it to download the most current PO file. :)

Perdone que escribo en Castellano, pero ¿tiene un ejemplo del Asturiano hablado? Entiendo la lingua escrita, hay algunas similitudes con el "Español" viejo (p.e. Xerez -> Jerez; xunta = junta) y por supuesto con Castellano. No sabía que existiese este idioma, sin embargo pienso que sea muy interesante.

kind regards

Hi,
Thanks again for your work.
In this link http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=wkXzxAC-i-A&feature=related (http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=wkXzxAC-i-A&feature=related) you can hear asturian language. It's a video about our organization (Softastur), and the work we do to translate free software to Asturian language.

forgiveness again. The file that I see on the page http://amule.uw.hu/translations/trunk (http://amule.uw.hu/translations/trunk)  is the same as it was before. The file that I posted had 40% done and I can't find it.
It's all ok, or It means that I have lost the job done? (I'll attach again the file "ast.po" with the 40% job done)

The page just wasn't updated yet. Nothing is lost. It is currently being updated, so you'll find your work there very soon.

Hi, thank you very much for the job.
I've downloaded the correct file from http://amule.uw.hu/translations/trunk (http://amule.uw.hu/translations/trunk)  and I finished the translation.

may it be available for the 2.2.3 version, or we must wait until the release of version 2.3.0 to see the translations in our language?
when it will be ready the 2.3.0 release?

Hello astur,

Thanks a lot for this complete update, you've done a lot of good work!

I'm sorry, but aMule 2.2.3 is already released and it can't be changed now. Because Asturian is not supported by our toolkit wxwidgets, it's a bit more complicated to include it. We've done so in the past with an Italian dialect, so it's possible, but it will only be for the next big release and probably 2.2.4, if we release another update to 2.2.

I can't tell you when 2.3.0 will be released, I would guess spring/summer 2009 - but please don't take this date for guaranteed as it always depends on the free time of our developers.

kind regards

P.D. Estoy contento de poder (más o menos) entender el Asturiano. No es un idioma dificil para extranjeros como Euskara.

One more question...
The translations that I have done, are valids for aMuleweb? in this case, wich releases?

Thanks again, and happy new Year

Currently we have not fully implemented amuleweb translations. Therefore amuleweb is always in English, unless you change the template. This is not good and we're aware of it, but I'm afraid it will take a while until it is fixed.

Let's do it this way: I add Asturian to aMule and publish a patch for 2.2.3, so you can use Asturian with it. Please be aware that you might have to do some more translations as some strings for 2.2.3 are not contained in SVN and vice versa.

Edit: Grammar

Here you go - the first picture of aMule in Asturian!

Please re-run autogen.sh and the configure script after applying the patch and put the ast.po in the aMule 2.2.3 po directory.

Edit: Please also test a current SVN (trunk) version, too, Asturian should have been enabled since 21 December 2008. It's really time that I get commit mails again...
