We are happy to announce the release of aMule 2.2.4 - The "we didn't have a .4 version since... well... long ago" version
This release is intended to be the last of the 2.2.x series, however, noone knows what future brings...
Randomly picking some changes in this release:
- Adapted for newest support libraries, such as crypto++-5.6.0, GeoIP-1.4.6, etc
- Several improvements in Kademlia routing
- Fixes of rare, occasional and frequent crashes (just a joke, aMule never crashes ::) )
- ...and many many more...
Please see the Changelog (http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Changelog_2.2.4) for a list of all changes.
Grab the sources or official packages at the download page (http://www.amule.org/files/files.php?cat=42) or check the forum (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=16747.0) for user contributed packages.
You can get the sources also via ed2k://|file|aMule-2.2.4.tar.bz2|4705472|f86442ce673fb59e98616c1234b10ede|/

And you can rest assured it will be bug free: I didn't write a byte of the changes!
So great job, and thank you to the rest of the team.
-
I didn't write a byte of the changes!
That's unfortunately true.
-
Thanks a lot guys. Great work.
And an additional thank for mention me in the changelog. ;D
-
And as usual, is anyone can compile a Mac OS X version ?
Thanks for all the team of aMule who make a really great job on this soft and allow Linux and Mac users to use an "eMule clone" (it's a compliment !)
-
Thanks for all the team.Great work!
-
aMule 2.2.4 really helped me turn my life around. I quit huffing paint and enrolled in a local technical institute.
Thanks, 2.2.4!
-
great work chaps, but where's the Mac OS X binary? :(
-
As always, a big THANKS to the hardworking devs for the new release.
One question: what is the name of the IP-lookup library under Fedora? I installed GeoIP-devel but that wasn't it.
TIA
-
loving the work :D
is wxgtk 2.8.10 recommended?
-
wait full version! ;D
-
It would be nice and respectful to your Mac community if you would wait to do a release until you have a working version for us ready as well. After all, aMule is advertised as "The All Platform eMule-like P2P Client".
That said, we are looking for the OSX version.

You're kidding, right?

agree with kry here anyone who visits the forums by now should know that the packageing is done by volunteers
also if people care to search u find out gtoso is our Official MacOSX Packager we just got to wait till he get around to complieing it
-
... and if you're thinking gtoso does "his job" too slowly, don't complaint about it: grab the sources and DIY. ;)

No, he just forgot the "and meanwhile redesign your web site so it looks Mac-friendly". ;D
-
Wow, nice way to treat your user base; verbally attack and insult them.
Shows real class guys.

Well I'll be damned, that's the first compile that's ever worked for me, and it's up to date no less! Thank you very much gtoso, you're a valuable asset to the Mac aMule Community.
Deep down he knows :)

Listen, you talk about respect - why don't you respect then the developers and the hard work we do in our free time? And for free, mind you, we're not a business.
If someone gives you a present, do you complain afterwards that you don't like the colour, too? Seriously, that's basic politeness and I'm afraid people who are demanding things are disregarding us.

Consider, that we only do source releases. In other words, all precompiled binaries are made by considerate users in their free time, after the source release is done. This should shed some light on why your request cannot be fulfilled. All that we can do to respect users of major proprietary operating systems is that we have designated sections for them in the download page and put available binary packages up to the project host (SourceForge and BerliOS).

verbally attack and insult them.
Where?

Hi,
Thanks for the new version!
In the changelog I read:
- Implemented non-interactive mode for amulecmd/amuleweb.
Can someone explain me what the non-interactive mode is and how I can use it?
Pim.
-
amuleweb is always non-interactive, its interactive mode has been disabled long ago.
amulecmd enters non-interactive mode when there's a command specified on the command line (amulecmd -c)
In non-interactive mode they don't display the greeting header not do they display a prompt. Basically that's it.
-
As discussed below: it would be great (and an easily added politeness that would save a LOT of people a lot of trouble) if you clarified at the top that Mac users should wait until their version or whatever it is comes out. I even get messages in my networks log that I'm not using the latest version. Well, it appears that I AM (2.2.2), since the new 2.2.4 works only for Windows thus far. Or am I getting it all wrong?
-
Well, thanks for this response, but (1) you're talking to a non-programmer, so I'm not quite sure what this entails; and (2) why not state this (or something even simpler) at the start?
-
Hi, I'd like to compile it myself but I think the wiki needs an updated article about compiling a STABLE release of aMule on a Mac...

This can be done most efficiently by one who can compile it on a Mac. Unfortunately most of us don't have one.
-
Nice to meet your request: http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=16788.0!
:-)

First. there is an announcement on Versiontracker that 2.2.4 is available.
Turns out that only the sources are available, no binary :'( :'( :'(
That was like a week ago...
The developers do not release binaries? Well, perhaps they should.
Sorry to say this, but the developers' attitude is what gives free software its bad reputation. If you want to develop some free software in your free time, that's great. I admire this. But why not go the extra mile and provide a truly useful service and make binaries? Most users couldn't care less about the source code.
-
@germ
I'm only a usual lurker here, but these posts get me angry.
first:
What OS are you using?
Where have you looked for the binaries?
Have you read all this thread?
Let's Look in the obvious places first than complain.
PS: I compile Mldonkey (Linux ARM and Powerpc, MIpsel binaries for NAS in mldonkey's community) and QNAP has helped me by sending a powerful ARM's NAS.
Guys are able to compile things only having hardware or managing a complex and sometimes impossible emulation.
I also think that waiting few days to get your software version is tolerable cause a p2p software is not food or water.
If you have a similar obsession about having real-time last 2.2.4.345232342xxxxxx release , I suggest to check for your real life priorities again.
PS2 suggestion for moderatros:
Please check for the IP ranges from where germ is writing and compare with GodzFire , I suspect he could be same guy... perhaps I'm wrong.
-
Dear germ,
the developers don't own a Mac and therefore can't produce binaries. We also don't use <insert your distribution>, therefore we have to rely on users to provide binaries.
kind regards
-

He uses MacOSX, of course.

You're wrong, there are tons of MacOSX users that seem to think that we owe them a binary or something.

Actually my wife just bought one, but with 2.2.5 incoming it makes no sense for me to build 2.2.4.
-
Thank you all guys for this new release !!!
IMHO this thread is about congratulations for a new release (better amule with more functionality/stability/usability and so on -MacOS included BTW-). And there are Mac/Win/etc. sections for platform issues, so ask there for your binaries please.
-
The discussion with germ has been moved to here (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=16845.0) in case minors read this thread and then I get sued for swearing in front of them.
-
P.S. The place to find MacOSX binaries has been stated several million times in this thread. Any further post about this will be happily deleted, and the poster subject to public scorn.
-

Wow, you guys release quite often (compared to eMule) ;)
