It has been decided that the configfile (.eMule) needs a new name, since (a) the name doesn't make much sense considering that we are called .aMule, (b) 2 other apps use the same file (lMule and xMule).
So please, vote for the file-name + location you would prefer for the config-file. And if no items matches your preferences, just add a post. ;)
NOTE: We will not be changing the .aMule folder!
-
I like the idea of having everything inside one main directory: .aMule/
:))
-
on os x:
~/Library/Preferences/aMule Preferences
shouldn't be too much work, given that the current location is:
~/Library/Preferences/eMule Preferences ;)
ideally, the content of ~/.aMule/ would be moved to ~/Library/Application Support/aMule/ but it doesn't matter much imho...
-
~/.aMule/aMulerc and ~/.aMule/aMule.conf both good. Btw, why do we have 2 files with preferences ?
-
perferences.dat only contains the userhash, but I could easily merge that into the normal config.file
-
xaignar:
afaik, preferences.dat exists for eMule compatibility, so that switching form eMule to aMule is as easy as copying preferences.dat, cryptkey.dat and clients.met (optionally) to keep your and other's credits.

I hate uppercase. I hate uppercase. I hate uppercase. :P
why not ~/.amule/amulerc or ~/amule/amule.conf? :]
-
I would prefer lowercase, too. The binary is also called amule.

damn - Votet uppercase - didn't see the otherone!!
And don't merge the userhash with another file - pleez
what reason for that anyway?
-
~/.aMule/amule.conf - think the poll would have been 90% ~/.aMule/amule.conf
if it was first - dindn't see the difference at first
-
I also prefer the lowercase version, and initially i voted on the mixed case.
-
I think there should be a new poll, because nobody can change his vote to the new option. I would do so.
-
Ok, new poll

Hi,
~/.aMule/amule.conf seems to me a good standart name :)

I'd prefer just ~/.aMule/conf
Naming the file amule.conf is redundant. But maybe I'm just lazy...
-
The 1th or the 2nd make more sense than any other, but that's just me ;)

Agree with ~/.aMule/amule.conf - it's pretty standard choice
-
As have other files inside ~/.aMule, the ~/.aMule/amule.conf is more compatible with FHS ( http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html )
-
Yep. I really like the ~/.aMule/amule.conf name. It just sounds (and looks) so natural, and obvious. Also, keeping preferences.dat is a good idea. For example, I would have never started using amule if there was no way to keep using my hard-earned emule credits. But fortunately, tere is, so keep this.
Regards.
P.S: I've noticed some (all?) of the error pop-ups, say emule application (or smth like that) instead of amule. If possible, would like to see that corrected also. It's no funny for me to remember every time that amule is based on emule.
-
You must remember it, because it's because of eMule that oyu ahve aMule ;)
anyway, we'll get rid of that at the same time we move config file, and guess what? because of the same reason.
-
yeah, I kind of expressed myself wrong. I'm not disrespectful (in fact, I use both, amuel and emule) but it's annoying seeing a file named .emule, and the errors saying emule error. It just doesn't look good naming your app amule, but having details like those.
Regards.

amule.conf or aMule.conf in the ~/.aMule directory for me !!
very good :)
