ed2k + macosX
« on: May 31, 2005, 09:23:09 PM »

Hi,
I have installed the lattest version for amule on macosX and I cant use ed2k link with my web browser(firefox). In the various wiki HowTo and faq, I have seen that a ed2k file should be in the /usr/bin/ or /usr/local/bin/. In my case there is nothing. How should install the binary source code ? Does it mean I have to compile the souurce?

thanks for your help

I download it from the Latest Version 2.0.1 rubric on the amule.org
There is only the application file. When I open choose the open package in the finder, I found a ed2k in the /Applications/aMule.app/Contents/MacOS. Should I move it in the /usr/bin ?

The ed2k link of the di****ore.com web site or the****rld.de doesnt work even if I copy and paste in the eD2K link handler of aMule.

thanks

edit: no links to sites with copyrighted stuff please ;) The management

ok since oyu found the path in finder, why dont you just addjust teh link you read in the wiki and make it right?
it does not really matter where the ed2k binary is, it just matters taht you setup the same path in firefox/mozilla where teh binary is in the end
thats all

stefanero

PS. and why the links dont work, no idear I know they shoudl work....and at least from some other sides they work for me, make sure you just have teh ed2k_part..... and no html tags or something alike

ok,

the ed2k links appear as bad link (the error message is : Not a ed2k-URI link).
I copy and paste the link in a text editor. It start with 'ed2k://|file|' then a file name then two number separated with '|' and ends with'/'.
Nothing like an html tags.

what is the ed2k_part.....?

I had an older version than the 2.0.0 which was working. So I have started several downloads. Since I upgrade (and trash the old version!) I can not start new download.

the part you where talking about with
ed2k://|file
is the ed2k_part, so thats fine....

I will point the Mac-Dev to this thread, maybe he knows to problem, if you say it worked before with copy and paste

One last thing.
I went into the .amule directory and findout that they were no ED2KLinks file. So I create one and copy and paste an ed2k links ... and it started to download... Not very handy but it works!

thanks a lot

OK.  There was an error when the 2.0.0 and 2.0.1 binaries were built and an important component was left out -- the part which enabled ed2k links to work.

For now, download one of the older CVS binaries, like http://download.berlios.de/amule/aMule-Mac.cvs2005-04-15.unicode.debug.zip.  Show the package contents, navigate to Contents/MacOS inside, and move the ed2kHelperScript application from there to the same place in your 2.0.1 binary.  Once that has been moved, you can throw away the CVS aMule.

I'll see about fixing the 2.0.1 binary that we're providing for download so it has this component.

There's no need to move or copy the ed2k binary from inside the app to anywhere else, nor is there a need to change any settings in Firefox's about:config screen.  You may have to repeat this procedure to get the system to recognize the helper again.
