ISP transversal
« on: August 11, 2006, 02:26:27 PM »

Hello,
it would be nice if in the next release of Amule, the ISP transversal/encryption functionality will be implemented (this functionality is already implemented in neomule and amule tk4)

Thanks in advance
Regards,
Alexandre

From the Features NOT to request sticky thread in this Forum:

Quote
Protocol encryption, protocol obfuscation, data encryption

This is one of the All Time Favorites, being requested nearly every second week. I can understand why people who have an ISP that shapes P2P traffic want to have this, but something like that will not be implemented in amule. Why not? Because it is a fight against windmills. If we obfuscate the protocol (which only works with other clients that support the same obfuscation) "bad" ISPs just need to take a look at our source and can adjust their filtering.
Besides this is merely a technical problem but a legal one: If your ISP shapes traffic he has to state that in your contract / service agreement. If he doesn't but still shapes he is charging you for a service he doesn't fulfill. Reason enough to go to court and sue (though letters to a national customer protection union might help). If this is stated in your contract: Bad luck, you signed that contract. Get another ISP. That might mean you have to pay a little more per month, but it actually works. Several big german ISPs have stopped shaping traffic after substancial loss of customers.
