Amule is so Slow
« on: January 29, 2008, 12:01:25 PM »

Hello:

My internet connoection is ADSL 24MB with Speedtouch 585v6 wireless router.  Initially i got LowID in amule due to the router's firewall.
But I could solve it by selecting emule's port forwarding, that was already pre-configured in my routers software (ports 4662 and 4672)

However i still have the same speed I had when my bandwidth was only 4MB (between 3 to 5Kb / s max). How can i increase my download speed? I already have many files sharing and my amule is connected for several days . Could anyone help me setting a connection to have a perfect amule experience?

At the moment I have:

BandWith limits:
Download 200 Kb / s
Upload 20 kB / s
Slot Allocation 3 kb / s

TCP Port 4662
UDP Port 4672

Max sources per file: 250
Connection limits: 400

Do i have to change something here? Or do you advice me to change ports in router and amule? Which ports do you suggest?
(sorry for the misspeling, but i'm portuguese).

Thank you very much!

i'd try higher ports first (above 50000 e.g. 54662, 54672)
max sources is less important then connection limit, soo try 1000 sources per file and 200 connection limit
upload speed to <=75% your 'real' line.
slot allocation to 'upload speed/5' (i've found anything other then that makes the opening of new slots a challenge for amule)

well for a rough idear of your line try http://speedtest.net/, then 'result in kb/s / 8 * 0.75'

and yeah forward them too, also on any software firewall too (if you have one)
forward the TCP port, UDP port and the extended UDP port (TCP port +3)

sorry but this clearly shows the lack of basic computing knowledge you have. There are soo many thing wrong with that setup, and stop promoting it, now.

Well thank you again Gav616, i'll try what you've said.

i should forget what hopelessone said than?

By the way, can you tell me exactly your settings on connection menu?

And another thing, in my router i have to put Port Range (here i put 54662 to 54672 or 54662 to 54662 and 54672 to 54672)? and then "Translate to" and "Trigger Port". what do i insert here?

thx and sorry for the massacre of questions---

yes, forget hopelessone advice,

regarding my settings, well i have a different line speed and different system setup so not really helpful i guess, but;

I'am on Arch Linux with a wired cable connection (3907 kb/s download - 366 kb/s upload), no router, no hardware firewall (only linux kernel firewall, iptables.)

download limit 0
upload limit 35
slot allocation 7
tcp 54662
udp 54672
udpx 54665
hard limit 1000
connection 200

also if your router keep disconnecting try max connection even lower i.e. 100 and max 'new connection / 5 seconds' in core tweaks to 10 or 5

tbh connection limit and 'new connection / 5 seconds' does not stop you getting any less of a file, it just might take a bit longer thats all, thats why there are credits. i.e. if you are owed 9mb of a file, you will get that 9mb regardless of the speed, thats why you are encourage to leave mule on 24/7 because you will get everything you need plus helping to spread files. and getting more credits
