This is my first post.  I would like to firstly thank everyone for all the effort that goes into providing a great product.

I have been using amule for about a year on a linux distro and believe that if there is a way of scheduling monthly download limits and having a way of scheduling downloads at certain times of the day, it would allow people to leave amule on all the time.  The benifits would be that one could continue to upload throughout the day or night whilst downloading only during offpeak times.  This would ensure that one does not go over ther monthly data limit, whilst fully utilising offpeak data alowance offerd by ISPs.

I don't know if there is any way of doing this using any third party scheduling software and I have not found anything doing google serches.  I anyone could point me it the right direction it would help.

Question: what you do when monthly download limit is reached? Disable all downloads?

Thank you for your prompt reply. The easiest thing for me to do when I have reached my monthly download limit is to stop running amule. Its not ideal as it obviously stops the uploads as well as downloads.  That is why I am pursuing some sort of scheduling system.  I have tried to follow some links in the forum discussions about using chromtab but the links seem out of date.  I am researching the correct use of chromtab at the moment but have not had success at implementing it as yet.

As a note when using "amulecmd -c Set BwLimit Down xxx" the changes are not reflected in the preferences window of amule until you stop and restart amule.  I am wondering if there is something I have missed.

Never heard of a download limit. Usually it's a traffic limit, counting upload and download equally, so this feature would be useless.

Different ISP's from all around the world have different monthly plans. Currently, I have a Cable connection with a monthly Download allowance of 7Gig 12 noon to 12 midnight and 14Gig midnight to 12 noon.  Uploads are not counted.  This sort of plan, with varying limits, is widely available in Australia.  If I go over my 7Gig "day" allowance  I forfeit any remaining "night" or "off-peak" allowance.  My connection is then "shaped" it is limited to dial up speeds. OK for emails but not much more.  I hope I have adequately explained my reasoning for requesting this feature.  I do not believe that it would be useless for the users throughout the world who have varying ISP plans as I do.

After a little more research I have managed to set up chron to vary my download speeds at certain times of day.  I have checked that it is working from the cron mail I get at each occurrence and by using the amulecmd -c "get bwlimits" command.  Here are the problems I am getting 1)even though I change the download speeds using amulecmd the connection speed in the preferences window of amule still shows the old settings i.e. they don't update. 2) setting a download speed of 0 (zero) does not stop the downloading.

Any further guidance would be appreciated.

This would usefull in italy too, here we have some mobile providers that offer a high speed - limited traffic limit GB/month or time-limited hours/month,
but this would not count all other program's internet transactions, even if you consider only the system updates this would be quite a problem.

Today in the commuter train your questions was running in my head. Of course there's not a clear solution but better than stop the aMule completly is to make and avarage of downloading charge and make a try and error to adjust the maximum speed desired of downloading (Preferencies - Connexion - Download).

Result you still keep a preference place in your file providers in your deamands of files but you limit the ammount of dowloading amount. This with and automatic o manually control of priorities (it's suposed) makes you to get peak aMule sources and make get you not so preferenced files in calm or desert moment.

Problem. It's difficult to calculate the maximum download desired.

Advantage. Your aMule client will not charge your computer in peak sources time and your computer will work healthier all the time and you limit your downloadings not so drastically.

Anyway with a limit of downloading you can't download so much.

I have managed to get amule to work in in a fashion by limiting the download speed to 2 during the day and 100 at night. I used chrontab/amulecmd to set the speed changes day and night.

The only bug is that the speed changes are not visible in the preferences  window after a change.  It still displays the old settings.
