first day of school
« on: September 24, 2006, 04:37:04 PM »

hello, i'm sure this gets annoying for you experts, however i don't know what else to do, so i will ask anyway. i am having problems viewing the videos i download. i have tried to set the default video player to the mplayer, but to no avail. furthermore, my downloads are stopping about 9 mb before their completion, and im not quite sure why it is doing this or how i can change the settings to have my downloads completed.  any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I don't get the mplayer-part, please write it again for me non-nativ-speaker.

Very brief tech-talk: Every file in the network aMule uses is splittet into chunks. These chunks  have a size of 9.28mb and every client usually uploads exactly these 9.28mb with every upload.
To cut it even shorter: All you have to do is to wait until someone uploads the missing chunk. This may take a while if your unlucky.

You'll find a bit more information and howtos about aMule in the wiki: http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

e.g. http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ_eD2k-Kademlia

Hope this helps you understanding a bit. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions.

bye

@animal chin

1) about preview using mplayer:
Can you try to set up aMule to use VLC for previewing (see the Readme.Mac.txt file that comes with aMule for instructions)? Someone reported problems with using mplayer for video previewing in aMule a few weeks ago, but I did not have the time yet to systematically investigate. Personally I am using VLC and therefore I know that it definitively works with aMule.

2) Concerning the downloads that won't finish:
Is the last chunk read? Then look into the "Last seen complete" column for one of these files. If it says "Unknown", you've never seen the file complete, which would indicate that the file is dead on the network.
Another option is that you are experiencing file corruption. Check if the aMule log (same window as server list) if there are messages like the following (which would indicate corruptions):
2006-08-06 20:53:21: PartFiles: SomeFile.rar: Expected part-hash: ABCD045BB73C8A6D9B94B96A872ED20C
2006-08-06 20:53:21: PartFiles: SomeFile.rar: Actual part-hash: 59C09888EBA4D76A9F5AABBE71ED5655
The last option is that everything is going as expected but you just need to be a little more patient. :)
