2006-12-18 -> os frozen and amule.conf reset
« on: December 19, 2006, 03:40:35 PM »

After some tenth hours running, today the screen of my amule machine is black and the numlock and the scroll led are blinking. I did not see another solution than to do a cold restart of the machine. after restart, i start amule. But all my settings (upload capacity, tcp port etc.) are away. I have to reenter them now.

Well, the only thing I can say is "too bad". Since amule is not running in privileged mode (you didn't run it as root, right?), it shouldn't crash kernel this way by definition.
Variety of reasons may cause such situation, including but not limited to:
1. Hardware failure (memory/cpu/disk/fan/ ... )
2. Kernel bug
3. Security breach
4. Unfriendly magic

No, I did not run as root.

Whee, I run memtest and it reported several RAM errors! Damn...
Thanks for the hint.
