Installing on a ubuntu web server?
« on: June 19, 2007, 05:20:33 PM »

Hi,

I am quite new to linux, so this might sound like a bizare question to many of you, but anyway...

I'm running a ubuntu webserver with ISPConfig and would like to have amule installed on it, so it would be accessable via internet as mydomain.com/amule

It is possible, right? Well, got much to learn, so please help!

Thanks,

Peter

Frankly, I don't think so. You'll need shell access in order to install aMule on your server, which you might not have on a webserver.

It's my server, so that's not a problem... ;D
I use putty if it's ok?

Install the amule daemon:
sudo apt-get install amule-daemon

Set up amuled and amuleweb:
http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/AMuled
http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Amuleweb

ok... installing amule deamon went well...

as for amuled: what do I have to download/install? Through a few links I got to a list of packages, what to choose? I'm currently running a Ubuntu 6.10, but will soon switch to 7.10, if it's relevant...

Thanky,

Peter

Aaaaaaa....
Didn't understand you right I guess... I've done apt-get install amule-daemon but thought there's another thing called amuled ::)

Ok, so I've done that... now it's all there, right? Or do I need something more...

you should be OK, just configure your ports/passwords in amuled and try to make it work.

Regards.

Ok, so I had quite some fun figuring out the procedure... as for now, I got to the web interface, even got the password in md5 as it didn't want to work without ;D
But some things still aren't right, so I'll need a little more help: when I run in Putty under /usr/bin$ amuleweb I get:
This is amuleweb 2.1.3
Enter password for mule connection:  <<- I ener the password I put in the amule.conf

Creating client...

and that's it. Can't get of this unless shutting down putty. Don't think thats ok, right? Did I miss something?

And when I run /usr/bin$ amuled I get:
amuled: OnInit - starting timer
Initialising aMule
Checking if there is an instance already running...
No other instances are running.
Loading temp files from /home/administrator/.aMule/Temp.

All PartFiles Loaded.
ListenSocket: Ok.

*** TCP socket (ECServer) listening on 0.0.0.0:4712
*** Server UDP socket (TCP+3) at 0.0.0.0:4665
*** TCP socket (TCP) listening on 0.0.0.0:4662
*** Client UDP socket (extended eMule) at 0.0.0.0:4672
Empty dir /home/administrator/.aMule/Incoming/ shared

and that's it again. Get's stuck again, but this time I can access via http://192.168.1.1:4711

You shouldn't enter the password you set into your config. Try the password from which you created the hash for your config. And make sure that you enabled EC in thisn config.

You say you can access it with your browser. What does it show?
