search results filtering / server filtering
« on: December 26, 2007, 12:27:02 AM »

eMule MorphXT has an option to filter the search results from spam sent by fake servers (fake files, mostly viruses or RIAA spies). I don't know if it's a standard eMule option or a thing added by the mod. Anyway, this feature is a must have since the spammers are a real PITA for all ed2k users.

It's a feature added by the mod. But I think it's not that necessary, since the only servers that send spam, are fake servers, so no need to ask them for search results (in fact. no need to have them in the serverlist at all). Also, you can search using kad, which has thrown no spam to me on my searches.

Regards.

But how can an average user know which servers are fake? An option to throw them out automatically would be good, but I don't know how could it be implemented.
I have an IPfilter but I don't know if servers are filtered by it too.

Well, you could try doing a local search to every server on your list, and deleting the ones that return spam, then set your server list to never update (neither from servers nor from clients). IPFilter does filter servers, BTW.
