AmuleGUI: how to share directories?
« on: February 25, 2008, 09:10:31 PM »

Hallo, I'm new.
First of all, a lot of thanks to the developers of "amule".
And, then, some questions:
I have installed "amuled" (2.1.3) on a machine (run with Debian, stable) and "AmuleGUI" (2.1.3) on the oter one (run with Windows).
1) When I click "Preferences" in the "amuleGUI" window, and then "Directories", I see a list of the local directories (A:, C:, ... K:). Is it normal? Shouldn't I see the file system tree of the machine running "amuled"?
BTW, if I click "OK", the file .aMule/shareddir.dat on the machine running "amuled" becomes empty.
2) I can't set a link for nodes.dat (in KAD settings) with AmuleGUI. Why? The only way I found is to delete nodes.dat in .aMuled directory, then wget http://emule-inside.net/nodes.dat and restart amuled. It's not a good idea, because the *mule* programmes should be run as long as possible without interruptions. But I didn't find another way to connect to Kad network.

Thanks in advance for every answer.
(Please excuse me if there are mistakes with my English)

Both of these are missing features, that will be implemented sometime in the future.
I'm afraid that I can't say when though.

OK, thanks for the reply.
Is there a way to tell amuled to reread the configuration files and apply changes without shutting it down and restarting?

If you use the remote gui, then clicking the "reload" button in the shared-files windows will cause amule to re-read the list of shared dirs (~/.aMule/shareddir.dat) and do a search for shared files.

As for nodes.dat, I'll try to add that today or tomorrow.

You can now update the nodes.dat file via the remote UI. ;)

And a warning: After you have changed the list of shared directories make a backup copy of the shareddir.dat file. There is a known bug in the amuled which somehow erases this file when a reload is requested. It's unpredictable though, but quite annoying if you suddenly find your shareddir.dat file empty......

You can always copy the shareddir.dat.backup file back to shareddir.dat and then reload the shared file, while amuled is running. This is unlike the configuration file which can not be edited when amuled is running.
