Hebrew transelation
« on: March 28, 2008, 01:15:59 AM »

I am thinking of starting a Hebrew translation.
A quick search in the forum reveled that an attempt was once made, yet in the statistics page there is no mention of a Hebrew translation.
Which leaves me to the sad conclusion that this translation was abandoned.

Dose anyone know what is the status of this previous translation? is it relevant in any way? or how can I get in touch with the translator?

Thanks!

Hello kpeace1,

Unfortunately I have no information about the last attempt to start a translation, it seems to have been removed long ago. As this attempt was made almost 4 years ago, I think chances are low to get anything out of it. :(

Anyway, I've rewritten the wiki page for translations to help people who want to translate aMule: http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Translations
If there's anything not clear to you, please tell me and I'll try to improve it.

I've attached you an he.po file you can use to start your translation.

Thanks for your efforts and good luck!

It would be the best if you could attach the file here in the forum. (Reply->Additional Options->Attach)

If you really have to send it to someone, use my email address, which can be found in my forum profile.

kind regards and thanks for your work!

I am attaching the modified he.po file. (I have completed  about a 1/3 of the strings).

Please tell me if:
a. Is this what I should send you (or do I need to compile it or something)?
b. If it is, is every thing all right, or those it have some problem?
c. when you update the original.po file (that is generated from the C++ code). what is the best ways to merge the two files?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the translation, everything was fine. The Hebrew translation is now available in aMule.

a) yes, this is exactly what I wanted. .)
b) No, I encountered no problems. You can use msgfmt -c --statistics he.po to check the file for errors.
c) Please click on the name of your language at http://www.amule.org/translations to download the most recent version of the po-file to continue your work on the translation. This file will always be updated to the most recent source version.

Here is an updated he.po file since I don't know how much time I will have to work on it during the week.

BTW, I use gtranslator to translate the code. With this file I can only jump according to msgid # and not according to  line #.
Since msgfmt gives the errors according to line # I wrote a quick python script to convert them. Posting it here just in case it's usfull for some one.

Code: [Select]
#!/usr/bin/env python

import sys

if (len(sys.argv) < 3):
    print "usage:\t", sys.argv[0], "file_name ", "line#"

file_name =  sys.argv[1]
line_number = int(sys.argv[2])

po_file = open(file_name)
i = 0
msgid = 0

for line in po_file:
    i = i + 1
    if (line[:5] == "msgid"):
        msgid = msgid + 1

    if (line_number == i):
print "error in msgid no.", msgid-1
sys.exit(0)

Yeah, its no biggie. 5 minutes of typing, I just thought, what the heck.

Would you mind If I added your script to the wiki page? It's easier for people to find it there.

The translation has been updated, thank you for your contribution to aMule. :)

Here is an update.

Work is going slow, since it comes out that translating isn't as easy as it seems.
Anyway, slow progress is better that no progress.

Thank you! We're already at about 70%, it's a very good progress already.
