Definitely!
It's nearly impossible now to chat with eMule users, as long as this feature is useful (maybe now it will be used more).
Until now, the chat feature is used only for spamming, most users ignore it, I think this feature should be implemented soon!

Bye.

Or to go the other way and throw out the messaging system in generell. It's years since I've recieved a usefull message. Today there is only mod-spam.

i'm new to amule .  Do people not ever chat on it?  How do people find like-minded people to share files in a more direct way so as to save time sifting through so much to find what you want with a good quality picture?    Is this captchas something that can make that possible?..  or is there an IRC channel?   thanks

Spams have overtaken the chat for years.

The only use of chat in the old days is to plead for jumping the queue. Unfortunately, unlike other p2p applications, amule will not allow you to manually  bias either positively or negatively towards anyone on their priorities to download from you.

Honestly, I am curious to know if there is any good reason not to remove the chat  feature.

thank you.   Sounds like chat is useless now.   So how and where specifically do ed2k/kad people connect to discuss files?

There are websites offering ed2k links, and many of these also have a forum where people discuss files. But I think posting links to these is against forum rules.

There is flurry of paranoia here, the chat is very limited in the mule, and one of its main use can be to warn others of the presence of prevalent and endemic Trojan viruses, Internet is a two edged sword and can be subject to abuse etc, but just ignore it. I managed to communicate with one person, and he left his computer on, so I could down load effectively and that file saved my friend's business from going down the gurgler

if you have a friend in mule world, you are gonna chat else were such as external irc or forum, imho chat feature in the mule program itself is pointless.

Agreed. It's mostly spam-only nowadays.

I think you're wrong, the chat is very usefull in ed2k. For example, if you want to dowload a file with few sources you want to ask the uploader for a slot, or give him an advice that he's the one who is sharing the file. As you don't know the uploader of the file, the aMule chat is the only way to contact him.

I've tested aMule 2.2.2-2 in Windows Vista 32 bits, and I've could chat with eMule users without problem. However I can't do it with aMule 2.2.2 in Ubuntu 8.10 (amd64). I try to chat WITH THE SAME USERS and I recieve an aMule message advertising me that the user I want to chat require that I solve a captcha, and that as I haven't captchas enabled I can't chat with him. A few seconds after, aMule closes without any error message.

I can't understand why the aMule chat worked for me in Windows, and didn't work in linux. Maybe it's the different architecture 32-64 bits of my operating systems, or maybe it worked in Windows because I also have installed eMule 0.49b.

Could you please fix the chat captcha problem in future versions? Thanks.

PD: Sorry for my bad English, I'm Spanish.
