Is there anywhere left to turn to?
« on: October 25, 2008, 09:42:24 PM »

I've been unable to get past the lowID obstacle. It seems that that is a common problem. I've searched the amule wiki and faq's and found relevant info, but it hasn't solved my problem. I've searched past posts in the forum, and even contacted some of the people who posted similar problems, but those people have long since given up on amule. So far, my post for help to the forum has had no replies. Is there anywhere else I can turn to for help getting amule to work?

Your previous post suggests that you haven't even tried to change the default ports in case your ISP is filtering them.

Anyway, if you have no firewall or it's configured correctly to allow those ports, and your router is configured correctly to forward those ports, aMule will ahve a HighId (except in the very, very, very rare case that you ahve a external IP that ends in ".0").

We don't know your firmware setup, we don't know your router setup other than you tried to open the ports and the router seems to say it's ok. There's no way we can help you without more information.

Additionally: You posted about it, then less than 2 hours later decided you weren't getting an answer. That's ridiculous. Please have some patience because the people helping here are volunteers that have a life.

Hi There, thanks for replying.

"your previous post suggests that you haven't even tried to change the default ports in case your ISP is filtering them"

It's true, I haven't done that yet. I had no idea that was something to try. I figured that there was a good reason that the default ports are what they are and being a newbie I never thought to mess with them. You've got 5 stars next to your name so I guess you have some expertise in this area.

Just so that we're on the same page, I understand that the default ports that you are referring to are 4662,4665 and 4672. Does it matter what I change them to? For example, is it important that they are of the form x,x+3, x+10?

"We don't know your firmware setup, we don't know your router setup other than you tried to open the ports and the router seems to say it's ok. There's no way we can help you without more information."

I don't know what my firmware setup is either. As a matter of fact, I don't even know what firmware is. Do you mean my router?

Here are some details that may be of use:

I installed aMule on my Mac running under MacOS 10.4.
My internet service is through my private phone line at home (AT&T).
My router is made by 2Wire with model number 2701 HG-B.
There are firewall settings in my router menu, but I don't have any other firewall software installed on my computer.
I have no idea if my ISP (I guess that's AT&T) is "filtering" ports, nor do I know how to find that out.

"Additionally: You posted about it, then less than 2 hours later decided you weren't getting an answer. "
That's simply not true, but I get your point.

"Please have some patience because the people helping here are volunteers that have a life."
Will do.

I meant firewall, nto firmware, my bad.

As for the 2 hours between posts, you are completely right. I missed the 12am/10pm separation and somehow managed to decide it was 2 hours.

All that means that I shouldn't post right after getting up. Sorry about that.
