Amule kad always off, not certain connection is correct
« on: December 13, 2008, 07:37:07 PM »

I am running Ubuntu 7.10, and I have Amule2.1.3. When I start  Amule, it usually says kad: Off on the bottom right hand corner.
Sometimes if I leave AMule run for awhile it says Kad:firewalled, but when I start it usally says kad:Off
When I go to Preferences, Connection, I have the check mark on the Kademlia network.

Also, the down arrow on the globe icon , the one at the top of the globe but is pointing down, is usually red, but sometimes turns to yellow. The bottom arrow on the Globe icon, the one pointing up, is green.
The arrows off the to the left of the Globe Icon, is red on the down arrow, and up on the green arrow.

When I check the Log, it says I am connected to the server, but does not say I a
have Low ID.
for example, right now the Log has this:
008-12-13 12:05:04: Servers: Connected
2008-12-13 12:05:04: Connection established with: Sharing Kingdom 4
2008-12-13 12:05:04: New client ID is 378283594
2008-12-13 12:05:05: Saving of server-list completed.

I have a Siemens Speedstream 6520  DSL router form my ISP , and I have configured the DMZ Gaming  port on the router for the IP address of my client machine.

I have this in the servers list:
http://ocbmaurice.dyns.net/pl/slist.pl?download/server-best.met

I am new to Amule, so any assistance anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the length of the post, as I was not certain what info is relevant.

Hello paz,

First: Thank you for writing such a comprehensive report. It's a lot more fun to help you as helping someone who writes "It doesn't work."

Anyway, everything is running as expected. aMule 2.1.3 is unfortunately pretty old and some changes to the protocols made using the old version not advisable.

Our current version is aMule 2.2.2. I'm afraid there are no ready-made packages available for Ubuntu 7.10. If you are not afraid of building it yourself, the Building on Ubuntuwiki page should be of assistance to you. Of course, if you have any questions (wiki pages are known to be outdated or in your case maybe requiring a more recent version of Ubuntu), please don't hesitate to ask.

You could also try to search for a ready-made package. Maybe you have more luck thank me with finding one.

Please excuse these problems, we don't have the man power to support distribution packages or anything but the most recent release.

Ok. Thanks for the quick reply on this. I have been thinking about updating for awhile now, but last time I updated, I had to reset almost all the configurations on the software I use, and I had to download some of the packages all over again. Probably because the package library's would not work with the new version.

At any rate, I will try updating to 8.04 or 8.10, and then try AMule 2.2.2

Thanks agian for the fast reply with this. Much Appreciated!!
