kademilia on amuled
« on: January 24, 2009, 04:07:37 PM »

hallo everybody,
I'm using amuled, amuleweb and amulecmd on ubuntu 8.04.

The problem is that I really cannot connect to kademilia  :(

Here's what I tried:

I've set these values in amule.conf:
ConnectToKad=1
Autoconnect=1
KadNodesUrl=http://download.tuxfamily.org/technosalad/utils/nodes.dat
(I also have a nodes.dat in my .aMule/ directory, just to be sure)

but after I launch amuled and amuleweb, kademilia is not connected.
I tried to run the "connect" command in amulecmd, but still KAD remains disconnected..

Could someone help me please?
Thanks
Ale

I use amuled and kad only, no servers, and it works fine.  But in the past I had some trouble getting the full gui amule client connected and getting high ID.  I found two factors in my case. First was in the security settings.  If I chose to accept only obfuscated connections this caused problems.  The other factor was that I was using a wireless LAN with a weak/variable signal.  This seemed to have far more impact than when connected to ed2k servers.  Wireless networks drop a lot of packets (even a strong wireless signal loses packets due to interference from other networks) but wired connections usually report no dropped packets.  I now have a different ISP and my server running amuled is connected to my LAN via ethernet cable. I set amuled to support protocol obfuscation but not to insist on it. I get connected instantly and HighID after a few seconds. I'm using amuled 2.2.1 on Debian Lenny.

I don't know if this will be helpful because there are other possibilities, such a simple port forwarding error,  and your situation regarding amule preferences, LAN and especially ISP will be different.  I know people who simply cannot connect to ed2k servers or kad because their ISP in effect disallows it.
