germ decides to be an asshole, swearing ensues
« on: April 27, 2009, 12:04:31 AM »

@germ
I'm only a usual lurker here, but these posts get me angry.

first:
What OS are you using?

That ought to be obvious: Mac OS X.

Where have you looked for the binaries?
Have you read all this thread?
Let's Look in the obvious places first than complain.

I have spent a fair amount of time in these forums and the aMule web site to look for the binaries. There is another thread where somebody tried to compile and then uploaded a binary, but the link has expired.

In summary, I am an expert user and I did spend quite a bit of time trying to find a binary.

PS: I compile Mldonkey  [...]

From what I read on the other thread, compiling an aMule binary *is not an easy task*. I may be able to do it, or perhaps not. Certainly this is beyond the ability of 99% of computer users. That's why I asked that the developers consider delivering binaries instead of just the source. The source code is only HALF of the work.

But let me ask, could the developers at least put up COMPLETE, CLEAR instructions on how to compile a binary? If such a write-up exists, I apologize for not having found it.

I also think that waiting few days to get your software version is tolerable cause a p2p software is not food or water.

It is not, but I am pressed to look for a new version because 2.2.3 freezes my Mac....There is always hope that the latest version may at last actually work fine....

PS2 suggestion for moderatros:
Please check for the IP ranges from where germ is writing and compare with GodzFire , I suspect he could be same guy... perhaps I'm wrong.

Dear germ,

the developers don't own a Mac and therefore can't produce binaries. We also don't use <insert your distribution>, therefore we have to rely on users to provide binaries.

kind regards

OK, but is it possible that among the group of aMule developers, NONE of them has access to a Mac??? Please try to make an effort. As I explained, the source code is only half the work.

If that is so, would you please put together instructions on how to make the binaries? I would be happy to try, but I suspect it isn't that simple.

Have you actually tried to compile aMule? I assumed you were no expert user, but as you are, compiling shouldn't pose a big challenge to you. But there are binaries at http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=16788.0 or in the Mac section in general.

Unfortunately, writing instructions about compiling requires being able to compile. It's a vicious circle. Where I live, you see more Linux notebooks than macbooks.

On a related side note: Very few Mac users here are actually nice. Most of them tell us what we do wrong, demand binaries or insult us directly. I hope it's only a vocal minority, but I'm not motivated to help people who tell me I help them wrongly (The grandmother-syndrome.)

You know, wouldn't it be nice if instead of "mac binaries?" - "no mac" - "you have to provide mac binaries!" the conversation would flow like this: "mac binaries?" - "no mac" - "Here you go!" or like this: "mac binaries?" - "no mac" - "my mac is your mac, feel free to use it for compilation".

Fortunately there are actually some nice users like gtoso and mirko.g who go throught the work of providing binaries.

You seem to be thinking we're doing any kind of thing wrong to you.

How about this:

FUCK YOU

Disclaimer: this is not aimed to aMule users, to Mac users or to any other user than this one.

Let me repeat it:

FUCK YOU

There, now you have a reason to complain, you fucking piece of shit. Half the work? Fuck you. "Try to make an effort" FUCK YOU.

You fucking ass, you think you're in any way in the right to tell us to "try to make an effort" or to doubt our word about having macs, or to tell us ours is just "half the work"?

FUCK YOU

FUCK YOU

FUCK YOU

FUCK YOU

FUCK YOU

FUCK YOU, YOU UNGRATEFUL BITCH

It had to be said.

Also Kry has pointed that this is obvious. This is my fault for sure.
I am too old and I am still expecting from a guy lot of useless data in order to give a proper support.
I have joined an Xman's school in order to improve my paranormal powers, I'll surely be able to infer lacking data from a black screen in few months .

In case older versions worked fine you can still downgrade waiting for a new version, submit a bug report with details(memory behavior) and check for your mac hardware to be ok first.

This is the way a real expert user behaves. For sure.
Let me politely reply in a proper way:

Felt good to let off some steam, didn't it?

But please refrain from now on from insulting each other in these forums. We have our fair share of "fuck you"s already.

I humbly beg forgiveness.
In order to redeem myself  I'm going to compile and provide amule cores for this platform:

Anyone interested should send a PM to me, I'll happily provide the working binary.
I hope The Lord will forgive me.

As for me, I managed to build aMule under Ubuntu without major headaches. And even did this under Windows once (though this was a bit PITA due to Windows nature where I have to install all dependencies myself in inconvenient and time-consuming way). Are you sure you're really "Expert", Luke?
