Sometimes amulegui doesn't comunicate with amuled
« on: May 22, 2009, 09:16:37 AM »

I'm using amuled on WDTV via optware precompiled packages. And it's working very very well, stable and as fast as adsl line can

I'm using amulegui on ubuntu 9.04 but 'some times' amuled refuse connection (my password and ip are correct, and they're saved, so i don't retype them every time, so, they're certainly rights, because often  it works...)

Is there any way to help me and you (developers) to find WHY this happens ?

Is not a line load problem, because when amulegui doesn't connect i try via browser/amuleweb and it works. And if i connect via ssh to the wdtv and the use amulecmd ... even it login w/o problems.

Other to try?

Did anybody ever reply to this posting?

I have just compiled aMule 2.2.6 for Mandriva, and it works like a charm. I run the amuled process and I can use amulegui via X-Windows on my Vista box, using Cywin-X as the X-server. (except that GUI crashes every now and then with a Z-lib error)

However, when I install aMule 2.2.6 for Windows the aMuleGUI that comes with that native Windows package does not connect to the amuled on the linux box. It does show me 2 things though: The list of shared files and the categories I have defined for the downloads. And in the logfile of amuled I can see that a remote client is actually connecting.

Any ideas on this? Or is the aMuleGUI still in "beta" without warranty?

Now what? If it shows its main dialog it DOES connect.

amulegui does work in 2.2.6, but has greatly improved in the SVN version. You can download Windows binaries for it, but you have to use a matching SVN amuled.

Actually, I found that the compilation of amuled on Mandriva with Cryptopp 5.6.0 does not work, at least not after the initial connection, but the amuled compilation on Solaris with Cryptopp 5.5.2 does work!

Maybe it's about the Cryptopp version that's used on the server side? What version of Cryptopp is used to compile the Windows aMule package, anybody know?

And I agree totally with the improvements on the remote GUI, it is working beautifully for me against the amuled on Solaris. Stats, preferences, categories, it all works. Thanks for that work guys, it is very much appreciated!  :) :)

You're welcome.  :)

My SVN Windows binaries (and those of aMule 2.2.6) are built with CryptoPP 5.5.2, because I'm having some nasty (and hard to explain) problems on Windows with 5.6.0. However the cryptographic functions are fully compatible between the two. I'm connecting the Windows-5.5.2-gui with my Ubuntu-5.6-mule all the time without any problems.

Yeah, tell me about the nasty problems with Crytpo 5.6, as you can read in the Solaris compilation soap story.

I'll try recompiling aMule on Mandriva with 5.5.2 as well, see if I can get the GUI to connect with all functionality. I'll let you know.

And unfortunately, nope, that's not it. I can connect to the daemon, I see the ed2k servers, categories in the transfer window, I see the shared files in their window, and I even can change all the preferences. But I can't see the actual transferred files, neither download nor upload.

How many transferred files are there? I think there's a problem if there are too many (> 100).

Nope, no more than 25 in the download queue. And a few uploading.

I have over 200 on the Solaris box though, and that connects just fine. I even had to up the ulimit because I could not reload shared, Solaris started complaining about too many open files. But no problem with the remote GUI.

Are we talking SVN or 2.2.6 now? There is no open files problem in SVN anymore.
I really don't want to investigate 2.2 EC problems anymore, too much has changed since.

Yes, we are talking 2.2.6, but the open files is not a problem. I simply used it as an illustration to show that I have more than 200 files open on the Solaris compiled version, and to that one the GUI connects without a problem.

It's to the Linux one that the GUI does not connect correctly, and that one has only 10 files in the queue. But since the Solaris one is running very stable now this Linux service will shut down soon anyway.   :)
