How to setup amuled to start at boot?
« on: November 11, 2009, 11:05:09 PM »

Hi, I have a headless ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) server where I would like to have amule running in background.
This "server" actually has full X11/gnome, but I have it in the basement and the monitor is usually off. I use it as a "server".

I can start amule from a local user and it works ok.

I did edit /etc/default/amule-daemon setting:

AMULED_USER="xxyy"
AMULED_HOME="/srv/Downloads/aMule"

xxyy@server:~$ ls -la /srv/Downloads/aMule
total 92

xxyy@server:~$

When I start "sudo /etc/init.d/amule-daemon start" I see no amule in ps:

xxyy@server:~$ ps ax | grep amule
30227 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep amule

Needless to say neither amuleweb nor amulegui work :)

As said user xxyy can start "normal" amule without any problem.

If it matters:
Linux server 2.6.28-16-generic #56-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 2 10:43:06 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
This is an atom-330 + 4GbRam with an up-to-date ububtu Jaunty.
amule is: "aMule 2.2.4".

What should I check?
I ried asking the same question on the ubuntu forums (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amule/+question/89324) but none cared to answer :(

Can you start amuled from terminal?

amule is: "aMule 2.2.4".
An upgrade to 2.2.6 is highly recommended.

Yes, at least without the change of HOME:
xxyy@server:~$ amuled -o -e

I can also connect with amulegui.
Later today I will check with HOME=/some/where/else

I would really like to stick to the official ubuntu repository, if at all possible.
I will switch to karmic (9.10) fairly soon and that should have 2.2.6.

Any further test I should do?

Thanks

I think amuled fails to run because it isn't properly configured.

Grab ~/.aMule/amule.conf and copy it to /srv/Downloads/aMule. Edit the IncomingDir and TempDir settings to point to the right location and you should be done.

Ok.
Thanks.
I was missing the AcceptExternalConnections=1 setting.
Shame on me.

Thanks again
