Waiting status forever
« on: December 26, 2010, 01:19:43 AM »

Hi,

I installed aMule 2.2.6, but download movie stuck in waiting status forever from a Linux box via my home ADSL2 router. Check following network log file, I know there was a problem of Low-ID. The status bar displayed: "eD2k: Master Server 1 | Kad: Firewalled".

But I've already disabled Linux box fireware and, the ADSL2 router is set to no fireware, no blocking either. I've read the Low-ID problem from Internet, people said even with Low-ID, the system should still be connected, but I didn't see anything downloaded it was waiting forever. Appreciate any advice what was the real problem?

I found more information, it seems it was connected and the standard port 4672 was also connected. Why it was waiting and doing nothing?

When you've Low-ID, that means others cannot connect you, only you can make connections to others. When you're downloading something, you enter a queue of the uploader. Normally, when you reach the top of the queue, the uploader connects you and tells that you can start download. This doesn't work with LowID clients, because he cannot connect you. In this case you regularly (~30 min) connect him to ask the queue position. If you reached the top of the queue and there is a slot open for LowID downloads, he tells you you can start the download.
As you can see it's more complicated to download with a LowID client, and you also have to have a bit of luck to start the download. And this can take a loooong time.... (not forever, as for example rolling six dices theoretically won't take forever to have six on all of them, but can take a loooong time)
Your chances are higher with more sources. That's why you can start to download a popular file sooner (in 0-2 hours), but starting a rare file can take even a week.
