Connection keeps on dropping out...
« on: November 24, 2004, 11:02:53 AM »

Mac G5 2.5 OS 10.3.6

aMule dunno what version - can't find version number, but recently d/l from aMule.org

Have eMule running quite happily on XP box, running through Debian (NAT) firewall (iptables drove me *NUTS*  ?( ;(X(  before some expert help arrived...).

aMule was running Ok at low ID before I got the firewall sorted out, now drops server connections as soon as it connects. Keeps trying other servers, but drops them too. XP box locks on quite happily.

Wonder if the XP box is interfering with the Mac server connection? Or are there any bugs associated with hi ID and server connections? (Mac is the preferred machine - XP is an old stand-by).

BTW, never seen my Mac processor work so hard when it processed 12 Gig of shared files. All the fans came on and the processor graph went up to past 3/4 - impressive! aMule must have some processor hogging software in there...

about CPU, aMule has to hash all the files you are sharing. that is VERY cpu expensive. nothing can be done about it. it's as if you had to read in the smallest time possible all your hard disk while calculating complex mathematic algorithms.

abot servers, please report that bug in the MacOS forum. it's strange the bug you are experiencing...

Greetings and thanks for the report!

I'm sure this is the sort of thing which aMule developers should spend no time or effort on, but I wonder how much faster hashing would go if it were optimized for Altivec.  Things like distributed.net's RC5 challenge suggest that Altivec would make a huge difference in cryptographic processing like that done during hashing.

You get your hashing code from libcryptopp, right?  I wonder if there's been any effort to put Altivec support in there.

I hardly doubt there's been any. why? because it is supposed to be multiplatform, not only working on PowerPC ;) (unless I'm wrong on the AltiVec concept, of course).

Anywy the hashing proces rises up just from time to time, not all the time, so it isn't a big problem, IMHO. eMule, eDonkey, etc, have the same problem, so... hehe

Greetings!
