aMule vs emulePlus/morphXT
« on: December 06, 2004, 02:34:31 PM »

I used to use windows for ages and just switched to linux last week-end.
I've tested almost all emule mods available on win and my favorite were emulePlus and emule-MorphXt.
Now I've installed aMule, and I have to say it works much better than I expected. Thank u for the great job done by the developpers. :baby:
However there are some cool feature of the win-mod I'm still missing: :(

- see commented shared files: It would be great to see at one glance which files have already been rated and which not.  In EmulePlus it is solved with a small icon beside the file name (just like for downloading files).

- click on icon to see comment: a very convenient feature. Left click on the comment icon shows comments (same as right click + show all comments)

- Webserver:  The emulePlus Webserver is the best webinterface I've ever seen. You can remotely do everything what can be done locally.

- drag and drop on category: It would be nice to be able to set a catergory just by drag-and-droping the file on the corresponding category tab.

- comment filter: ability to filter spam comments (www| ketamin|...)

- message filter: same as above but for messages.

Some of this feature might already be implemented, but I didn't find out how to use them.

I agree that amule needs a better webserver, anyhow current cvs is a lot improved...

- view rank in queue + progression: give the ability to see the queue rank of the pending files.  The ranking number is green if it has decreased since the last request, black if it is unchanged and red if it increased.

This is already implemented
Just doubleclick on any file and you will see in priority column your QR and how it changed since you entered the queue. (for example if you see QR: 100 (-20) means that you are in position 100 in queue and you gained 20 positions since you entered the queue.

- message filter: same as above but for messages.

Message filter is implemented in current cvs

Are you sure? I can't Drag&Drop between categories, nor see comments on shared files (not downloading ones). Not sure about "click on icon to see comment" since I dont have files with comments now in my dl list.

You're right, "view rank in queue" is realy working. It just didn't notice the ranking, since my column was too narrow. Sorry about it. Colors would be nice, though. Anyway, I removed it from my want list.
I've just re-checked "see commented shared files", "click on icon to see comment" and "drag and drop on category" and none of them works for me. ;(
Are there any options to setup? I can't drag at all.
I've set the language to "french" may it have any impact?

no I am sorry...
that was my bad  :]
KRy was right I miss read it ....
drag and drop does not work you have to manually clikc on the file and assign it to the categorie.
and I also missunderstood, that you meat for searched files...we only have the comments for files which you are already downloading

my bad

stefanero

PS: there is a ed2k web search engine, which will tell you the comments when you search but I forgot the link, maybe you can google ;)

Well, point by point:

> - click on icon to see comment

I don't see this as a usefull feature. it could bring unwanted behaviours if ppl clicked over the image involuntarily. but well, maybe an option in Preferences could enable/disable it.

> - Webserver

Web server is skinnable. If you feel like doing a new skin based on eMulePlus's webserver skin, it's be very much appreciated and surely ported into aMule.
The thing is there are ppl asking for an eMule-like webserver (which is the oen we currently use), ppl asking for an eMulePlus-like webserver, ppl asking for an mldonkey-like webserver, ppl asking for a...
Since last release, webserver is skinnable, so just modify the skin and post it in Development forums please :)

> - drag and drop on category

Ye, I also want this feature since long ago. I want to work on it on January after my exams.

> - view rank in queue + progression

Implemented already. About colors: when you have won possitions in the remote queue, it is shown in blue. when yo have lost positions, it is shown in red. What else do you mean with colors?

> - comment filter

I guess the Message-filter code could be reused with comments. Just add a Preferences radiobox with "filter comments, filter messages, filter comments and messages", or something alike.

> - message filter

Iplemented in current CVS.

Thanks for your suggestions very much :)

I hope I answered you about everything here. if not, please make me know.

Greetings!

I see it useful, and if double-click.

Sadly is not possible :)

I'll do it on 2.0 final.

Kry: about d&d, why not possible?
wx supports d&d and we can just check if the wxPoint where it is dropped is in the categories rectangle (in fact, i think CMuleNotebook acts exactly this same way).

I didn't mean "searched files" (however it would be great), I meant,  I want to see if I gave any comment to a file I am sharing.

I've used this feature very long and never miss-clicked it. I find the way it is solved in emulePlus very convenient. Files are displayed like this:
FileTypeIcon CommentIcon FileName Size ...
The FileTypeIcon is the same as displayed in Explorer for this type of file (.avi, .mp3, etc).  Clicking on this Icon displays the file properties (file name...)
Clicking on the commentIcon (if available) displays the comments.
double clicking on the file name displays the sources list.

I'd really loved to. Unfortunatly my programing skills are not good enough.
Is there any other way I can help (testing, translation ->german ->french)?

That is exactly what I mean. I probably missed it. Sorry.

heh, k :)

well, the FileTypeIcon is better not to implement it since currently the mime standards in linux don't include representative icons so, depending on the X you are using it would work or not -> possible crashes, weird behaviouts, etc.

About skins, the only requirement to be able to do skins is HTML knowledge ;) see ~/.aMule/aMule.tmpl since that's the default skin. Have in moind, anyway, that webserver is being heavily developped at the moment in order to make it quite much better.

About helping, of course. Translating, testing, suggesting, coding. anything is wellcome ;)  Take a look at http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/AMule_devs#Helping

Greetings!
