Few sources found on researches!!!!
« on: December 18, 2004, 11:37:57 PM »

With aMule a Global Search generally finds something like 250 sources where eMule's Global Search finds 1200 or 1300(I don't remember the exact amount).Did you hardcode this limit on the sources(I haven't checked them) or maybe there's some way to change this at runtime?
For example I tried a Research with this setup :
Connected to = Razorback 2
Status = HighID
Tcp and Udp Ports = Working
Search Type  = Global Search
Extended Parameters = Yes
File Type = Any
Category = All
Extension = Blank(i.e. not set)
Min. Size = 0
Max. Size = 0
Availability = 0

Word Searched = sex
Items found = 270
Simply Impossible!Try to search that word with eMule and you will receive 1300 items and just because it seems that it's the hardcoded maximum.

you might be using an eMule mod, not the original eMule.
The original eMule has (at least it had) a limit of ~200 results on Global search. aMule's hardcoded limit in Global search is ~300.

Maybe I'm wrong and that's only for Local search, but anyway, aMule shows what it gets and what it gets is what servers send ;)

I'd like to test it but no eMules here :(

Greets!

The official release of eMule taken from the official web site has a limit of 1300 items found in a global research,Try it and then you'll see!
P.M. Is there any good point at fixing the maximum of items found to ~300?I could have understood 255 if you used a byte to index the items found,but 300 is meaningless!
Anyway if some coder could tell me which ones of the sources files depend on this limit I'll change them by myself.(I could do it all by myself but I'd prefer to do this without searching through hundreds of code lines,thanks!)

the official client has a limit of 200, but if you press the "more" button, you wuill get 200 more, and so on, in increments of 200, up to a maximum of ... i have no idea, but I just noticed amule has no "more" button, and this is annoying sometimes, since there are som files which I know, never appear in the first search, but always appear after pressing one ore two times the "more" button.

This is what I was talking about!
The "a maximum of ... i have no idea" that skolnick wrote is 1300,as I said before.Yes you can find only 200 items with one search,but obviously if you can go on you'll do it(why not?!),so I always reach the 1300 items found when I can.
Anyway I think that with aMule the problem is not only the hardcoded limit.In the example that I was talking about in the 1st post of this thread I reached the 270 items found,so -30 to the limit!!!This is really wrong because if you try to do a global search of the word "sex" with eMule you will obviously reach 1300 items found with some clicks to the botton "More".Each one of these steps will reach the 200 items found, i.e. the hardcoded limit for one single step.Here's the problem : eMule stops at the hardcoded limit for one step of search(i.e. 200), aMule instead doesn't reach the limit and stops at 270 items, so we could argue that even changing the limit it won't find other items.Maybe there's some problem in the implementation of the search code.

P.S. The final limit for eMule is 1300 or 1200,I don't remember exactly(more likely 1200 being a multiple of 200), anyway this isn't really important.

I think there is no problem...there is just a need for a button named "more" (which will obviously do its work)

Maybe I should have written at the start of this thread "Don't post anything on this thread if you're not an aMule programmer or if you're not able to program a p2p file sharing program!".
To skolnick : What are the reasons which you based your answer on?Faith?!And a "More" button doesn't mean anything if the search routine that it uses has some problem.Why should a series of searches find more items than one single search if in a single search you don't reach the hardcoded limit of 300?If you say something try to explain why do you think that,we are not in a church here!!!

P.S. Sorry for my english, I'm not an english speaking man!
