slow
« on: January 09, 2005, 02:49:48 PM »

Sorry if this is stupid, but ive only just got aMule and it seems very slow. I have plenty of peers but there are only one or two that i get connected to, if any. The result is that the downloads run at around 2KB/s, at the most 5. Is this how it should be or am i missing something?

Thanks

rob_rd,

Hey nothing is stupid here, no one was born knowing... :D

The first time you run aMule, it takes some time for it to start downloading, but there are a number of things you may check. For example, if you set your upload limit under 10 Kbps, you wont be able to download at full speed.

My advice is: read the wiki, there is plenty of information there for you. In particular:

http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Getting_Started

http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/AMule_problems

http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/AMule_is_slow

And also many more.

If still you can't find a solution, please do post here your concerns.

Cheers!

Ok, i've read that, but there's still no reason why mine is so slow. How fast should my downloads be? My download speed is stuck on 0.5 and its really getting annoying.

rob_rd,

If you read the wiki and all your settings are ok, you should know that you can't donwload faster than the slot bandwidth that the other user sharing the file with you has allocated for that. What is there to do now is to wait on the queue and when the time comes, download at the slot bandwidth.

Some users leave the slot bandwidth too low, and this is really anoying. But sometimes that is all the bandwidth they have.

Cheers!

Ok, one more thing. If, in the sources column on download window it says, for example 280/291 (1), does this mean that i am connected with one person out of 291 people. Should i be downloading from all of them?

Thanks for your help,

Rob

you aer in queue from 280 clients, of your 291 know cleints for that file
and yes you are downloading from one atm

this seams you are waiting at 279 other clients :)

the wiki page has a pretty good explanation about all of this ;)

The ed2k network is not exactly renowned for its speed and your speeds are not really suprising, especially if you only have one file loaded at a time.I have 50+ downloads running at any given time and still don't get full speed(and I only have 256k down). However I still use it because of the amount of rare files that are available, and the fact that I can branch out within any interest and download it all within the same program..However if I want something fast and I want it now(and the file is common enough),I use bitorrent :)
