aMule Hang my connection
« on: February 20, 2005, 02:38:13 AM »

Hi,

I've compiled aMule 2.0.0rc8 + wxGTK 2.5.3 on Slackware 10.1
I haven't any crash but aMule hang my internet connection.

I've a ADSL natted by a router, and my computer is under DMZ, then all packets are redirect on my pc.
I just know the limit of my router, then i've set it on max 512 ip session and i've entered 150 / 150 -  max source / max connection limit  on aMule.
Anyway aMule hang my connection :( .

p.s. on windows under eMule with 200 / 200 max source / max connection limit ther'are not problem of hang connection  ?(
I do not want to install eMule under wine, sigh  ;(

Bye

lowering the max connections / 5sec will help a lot.
some routers cant handle so many connections at once.
try to reduce it to 5 - 10 and see if it does any better

Preferences->Connections:
- Bandwidth limits: (NOT Line Capacities)
-- Set dowload to the desired download band you want to give
-- Set upload to n-4 the bandwidth you want amule to have. Ex: If you want 10 kB/s, set it to 6. (ok, this is a bug and is beeing addressed).
- Set max sources to ~400.
- Set max connections to 50.

Preferences->Core Tweaks:
- Set max con/5 sec to 5.

What phoenix wanted to say is that at the moment amule produces 4k more upload then it should. On a 128 kbit connection you have 16 kbyte/sec max upload. 10k for amule upload + a little normal overhead + 4k bug is somewhere very near to the maximum line capacity. But as every downloaded package needs some upload for acknowledgement your download (and surfing) may be seriously slowed down if you set upload to 10k...

It's not nice but that's the way it is right now   :(

Lins,

I did not say to you to set it to 6. I gave an example. Set it above ten to get more download. But watch out, if you set it to 12 you are likely to use all your upload band and this will harm your download rate too because of ACKs.

I have ADSL 256/128, and I set upload to 7. It's more or less the limit that allows me to use the browser while running aMule.

Our problem is the 128 :)

Cheers!

Ops....
My adsl is 640/256 not 640/128 :p

Then i've set download speed to 80k and upload speed to 10k :)

Any little question.....

1) why under eMule i can set max source and max connection tu 200 /200 and it not hang my connection ?
2) why under eMule my download starts nearly immediately (I think this is related to first question)

Bye and thanks for the info :)

[EDIT] obviously the credit files of eMule and aMule are the same :)

You mean max sources per file = 200 and max connections = 200? I see no problem. The critial setting is max connections per 5 seconds, which is 5 here. In my machine I set max sources per file to 400. Max connections too high may be a problem to some ADSL routers.

Well, it should not. But if it does, we have a problem. Can you be totally sure that this happens?

Cheers!

How long did you use emule? and did you copy your preferences.dat and cryptkey.dat from emule over to amule? It may not be too obvious, but credits have a serious impact on your download speed. So if your emule was running for several months you collect a lot of credits that you can "use" and that speed up your downloads. If you then switch to a virgin amule without taking your userhash with you this slows down downloads a lot...

See my edit ;)

My credit of aMule and eMule are the same (i've imported : preferences.dat, clients.met,know.met,know2.met,server.met ;))

Yes i mean max sources per file = 200 and max connections = 200.
With this settings eMule don't have problem.
Uhmmm but, under eMule max connections per 5 seconds is 5... or not ?  ?(

Ah, I didn't understand what you wanted to say with the edit / thought you meant something different...

You're missing the cryptkey.dat here. You have to transfer both the preferences.dat and the cryptkey.dat to your ~/.aMule/!

Ops it's true, but the problem not are this because i've imported the credit from aMule to eMule not viceversa ;)

Then i've resolved, it was the "max connections limits" too low with 50.
I've set it to 100 and it work !!!

WOW

The last question :

Under eMule "Max new connections / 5 secs" is set to 20
Then why under aMule it Hang connection and i must set it to 5 ?

Bye and thanks to all :)

Several answers:
1) I don't know :D
2) A bug in aMule?
3) A bug in eMule?
4) A bug in the router?

If the answer is 2), and you give us a clue, maybe we can fix it.

Cheers!
