Hi all (Happy new year!)

I have installed Mandrake 9.2 on my computer yesterday for the first time so I am very new in the linux community! I used to have emule on my computer at the time I was using this Microsoft windows thing.

I have discovered that it exists something similar like amule for linux

could someone be nice enough to teach me how to download/ compile (?) ? run this program?!

Reading at the forum I understand that there may be some commands to enter. Does this mean that I have to use the Konsole?

Should I download the .rpm at a specific location on my computer? Is it ok under my documents?

Tout semble bien se passer lorsque je download les 3 premiers liens (une interface graphique apparait, je clique sur ouvrir et le fichier s'enregistre automatiquement sur mon disque sans avoir besoin de mentionner un emplacement) mais pour le dernier, une interface graphique me dit :

Que souhaitez vous faire avec ce fichier il ne peut etre affiche directement dans ce navigateur
application/x-redhat-package-manager

....

Ce fichier n'est -il  pas adapte a mon os mandrake 9.2? Dois -je telecharger un autre lien?

Everything went when i downloaded the first 3 files (a gui appeared and i clicked on open and the file was automatically written to my hd without asking me where to download it to). But afterwards a gui told me:
What do you want to open the file as it cannot be opened directly in the browser.
application/x-redhat-package-manager

The file(translation note:he probably means filetype here) isn't configured for my mandrake 9.2 os? Do i have to download another file?

My answer:
Don't click open, download it to your hd.If you don't have a gui that helps you installing .rpm files (for example SUSE does have one) you have to use the commands in a command line like Xterm.

rpm -Uvh wxGTK-2.4.2-1.i386.rpm wxGTK-devel-2.4.2-1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh wxBase-2.4.2-1.i586.rpm
ln -sf /usr/bin/wxgtk-2.4-config /usr/bin/wx-config
ln -sf /usr/bin/wxbase-2.4-config /usr/bin/wxbase-config
ldconfig
rpm -Uvh aMule-1.2.3-1.i586-SUSE_9.0.rpm

In Frensh:
Ne pas clique sur ouvrir, download cela sur votre disque. Si tu n'a pas une interface graphique qui aid installer le rpm tu doit (damn there must be another form of that verb in the 2nd part of the "si" clause, well i don't remember, my Frensh's getting rusty) taper les commandos dans une ..(i don't know what's frensh for command line?) command line comme Xterm.

So edited it 2 times and made a proper answer as well.
Delta i dunno if you understood his problem correctly. When it asked save or open he chose open but the file type isn't associated with any program and doesn't know how to handle it. That's why he was wondering if he needed any other software to open it with. I suggested him to download it to his hd and use the command line commands you wrote. I hope it'll help him.

I don't know what happened but I completely forgot to write in english....probably too confused by your answers and the fact that I was downloading my first files on my computer...

What I did was to use another link that I found under amule.sourceforge.bet :

I found there the same kind of link but for

and of course do not ask me why but it worked....


I wrote amule under my Konsole and it opened the software.

I managed to connect to a server...I even opened  my ports 4662 (tcp) and 4672(udp) through the security wizard (drakfirewall)!! incredible isnít?!!  

 


I have some new questions  then...

I tried to find out where I could find a folder inside my documents called amule....but  did not succeed neither did I found folders called amule/temp or amule/incoming. In fact I should need this kind of olders in order to save my dowloads?

In other words where is stored my amule software and the related subfolders?!!!...

If I choose save instead of open then I managed to save it and I am able then to click open. This interface is probably the equivalent of the cammand line that you mention


rpm -Uvh aMule-1.2.3-1.i586-SUSE_9.0.rpm


conclusion I have the version 1.2.3 working! eventhough I do not understand how it is going to save my dowloads...

and Drackfirewall : I unsticked all the possibilities + open 4662 and 4672

yes I have a high id but I was just worried in terms of safety for my computer as I understand that it exists many viruses on the net...

anyway I will keep it running this way with those parameters and se what ahppen...
