4Gb+ files "slicing"
« on: April 07, 2005, 10:08:39 AM »

Ed2k has a 4Gb limit per file.

Let's say you want to share foobar.iso with the world, but that is a 5Gb file.

If you want to publish this file, you must cut it yourself, and share it as N different files, let's say foobar.iso.part1 (3Gb) and foobar.iso.part2 (2Gb).
Unless you have plenty of space to waste, you would delete the complete file, but doing so, you cannot use it anymore (mount it, view it with vlc, stare at its full hexdump, whatever,...).

It would be nice to have aMule let you share the big foobar.iso file, even if it's too big for ed2k:
aMule could simulate the slicling (ie: tell everybody you have foobar.iso.part1 and foobar.iso.part2), just internally mapping every request for foobar.iso.part1 to the first 3Gb of foobar.iso, and every access to foobar.iso.part2 to the next 2Gb

Isn't it a nice feature to have?
