Your not really running a server, but your a part a serverless network. If you mean with server, that you forward and execute f.e. search request made by other users, then you're right. I prefer to call it a node of the network
What's great about Kademlia? If you're just downloading mainstream: nothing, it even harms your upload due to additional overhead.
But if you wanna dl a rare file, your only chance to find sources is sometimes kademlia.
Same applies for Kad-search, I've found some really rare files (1source

) just using kad, global search found nothing.
BTW: Amuledevs seem to be really sadistic...
