Low ID (i know, again)
« on: August 01, 2005, 03:41:42 AM »

I am new to amule. Ok here we go, I have a low id. amule says I am either behind a firewall or a router, so no one can see my files to share, which equals a low id. I have also wondered about the private ip. Port tester says "Your public address is dynamic-ip-cr 200.xxx.xx.xxx" but my computer says I have an ip of 10.x.x.x . Could anyone help me figure this out? Any way, I was looking at amule and I have someone downloading from me (I am uploading), so I must see somewhat reachable? Could anyone help me w/ raising my id? Thanks.

well the 10.x.x.x address is your LAN address, and the 200.x.x.x is your external IP...

I assume you have a router, from dlink , smc netgear whatever....
loot at the manual of the souter, and check how to forward ports to internal computers...there are most often examples with webservers. check on howto do this stuff, and forward the ports defined in your amule-preferences, defaults here are 4662/tcp, 4665/udp and 4672/udp

forward those ports to the 10.x.x.x ip address of your linux box.

if you still get a lowid, check that you are not running a firewall on your macOS, or that you configure that on correctly

I was heading in the direction of port forwarding, but i am new to all this stuff. I am living in Bogotá, Colombia. My ISP is TV cable. I have a Semens SpeedStream 6101 cable modem. I am running Mac OS Tiger. I am wanting to port forward and am looking for info online, but any help on where to begin would be a lot of help.

ok, i seem to be at a dead end. my cable modem seems to be just that, a modem. i dont think my modem is my router. the only other thing i could think of is the airport express. could that be my router? if not, where? im clueless. excuse my "novice-ness", but i gotta start somewhere. althought i have learned new concepts and ins and outs of mac.

heh maybe
/me dont know what airport is...

if its just an wlan port in your mac box probably not, if airport is an wlan -access point then you have to configure it...
