# of sources :(
« on: October 25, 2005, 06:26:13 PM »

I've installed amule 1 week ago. And I was surprised to see such picture:
I want to download 26 series of a cartoon film (french, No copyrighted Material in here, please. The Management, if anyone wish to verify this situation), so I have 26 files in the download queue.
7 clients are downloading from my  computer the parts that I already have.
Number of sourses for all files, including useless = 5 !

How is it possible ?!

And yesterday, I've installed eMuleplus (to look only - I must help one girl to install it, so I must know what is it!:) )  As I have samba installed on the computer with aMule, I stoped aMule and I have set the "Temp" directory of eMuleplus to the "Temp" directory of aMule... (Also I copied filters, etc - all files with equal names - to eMuleplus config directory)
To my great surprise, eMuleplus found about 50 sources for "my" files! (aMule showed about 15 before than I stoped it...)

What is it? I know nothig about algorithms of search of sources...

aMule drops per default sources that don't have any parts for you (after verifying, that there are no files where this source coulb be useful) so it's normal, that the value in aMule is lower than in eMule.
I don't know exactly wheter such a big difference could be caused by that, simply look how many sources have the status nns.

We have / had a problem with getting sources from servers after amule is running for some time. This was fixed today on CVS. Now you can either be a little patient with us and wait for the next version (probably 2.1.0) or compile tomorrows CVS snapshot. Or maybe there'll be a hotfix 2.0.4 release?

edit:
Or you can try the patch that Xaignar posted here: http://forum.amule.org/thread.php?postid=42841#post42841 (It is for CVS, but it should work with 2.0.3, too)

WE do not care what you download, please remove any reference to copyrighted material from your post. Regarding the problem, are you using kAD and ed2k to get sources? and are you connecting to a known good server?

Regards.

Didn't I already do that, or did I miss something?

Sorry, I was replying when the original post had no replies at all, but got distracted and when I hit "post reply" you had already corrected the post.

Sorry, I don't understand... Any configuration options or ... ?
And what does "good server" mean ? Does anythig depend on the server ?

I did it. The same thing!
eMulePlus found 5 sources for 1 file, and began to download immediately, when aMule showed "0" (I was waiting for 2 hours).
This is the problem that I want the files with LITTLE number of sourcers - 1-10 ... When you try aMule with the files with hundreds of sourses - of course, you can't note this effect!
Unfortunatly, I can't run 2 mules at the same time for compare - I have only 1 IP at home. (I tried - the 2nd mule interferes with the 1st, although the computers and the ports are different, but ID from server is the same... Start the 2nd with lowid ? - it's not a clean experiment...)

One thing might be Kad, which is not present in 2.0.3 but will be on 2.1.0. I'm downloading mostly rare files myself and don't have big problems (using CVS).

You can run two mules behind the same public IP. You only have to assign different ports and forward them. Works like a charm here. It might be that you have to connect to different servers, though (but I don't think it's necessary.)

eMulePlus does not support kad !

Good idea, I'll try :)
It's necessary. With the same server, 1st mule receives the responses, sent by server for the 2nd - I see it in it's log.
Both mules are the same ID, so I think that server does not differ them.

Sorry, didn't know that since I've lost track of emule, it's mods and forks when I switched to amule...
