Title: Crash on Ubuntu 7.10 64 bits
Post by: toagobiao on January 12, 2008, 03:35:42 PM
I installed the amule_20080111-1207_amd64.deb package and amule crashed after a few hours running.

Were you doing anything in particular? Downloading something, modifying any option.. ?

Samoe for me and I was not doing anything special. I even suspect amule to be the reason why ubuntu  freezes sometimes or even reboot without any warning.

An user app should not be able to cause either freezing or rebooting of your system. More likely your OS and/or hardware is broken, possibly due to overheating. You might want to try to look into that possibility.

Well the hardware is 6 month old and what makes me think that it's not a hardware problem is that :
- I never experience this kind of trouble when amule is not on
- even Vista  don't crash like this. In fact it has never crashed so far...

That would leave the operating system, in which case it's probably a buggy driver.

True, and I'm investigating on it but it doesn't solve my amule problem.

I installed the latest wxWidgets and wxPhyton as recommended here :

I'll test it more but it looks like the same

mugen,

Depending on the configuration, aMule can be very CPU intensive, and beeing CPU intensive for a long time can cause heating problems if the CPU is not properly cooled.

If I remember correctly, there is a program called "burncpu" :D which tests for overheating.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look for the tool.
Anyway amule still abord for no reason even after I installed the latest wxWidgets and wxPhyto

mugen,

aMule 2.1.3 is very old. This last backtrace you have posted was an old known issue with cryptopp on some distros. It should be fixed in current svn tarballs. I strongly advise you to compile it yourself. The latest tarballs come with a script called "amule_build_install.sh" that can be used to compile everything. Or you can use just pieces if you prefer, like say, you want to use your distro's libupnp or wxWidgets (which I do not recomend). Give it a try. Just download the necessary tarballs and fire the script. No need to be root.

Cheers!

2.1.3 is old? it's the latest version that was available on the ubuntu synaptic package manager.
Sorry but I'm new to the ubuntu and co world.
What are the svn-tarballs you mentionned and where can they be downloaded?
Just to make sure, you're talking about svn-tarballs not amule-tarballs?

Yes, 2.1.3 is old and buggy. Unfortunately, due to real life problems of the aMule coders, we were not able to release in more than a year. But in a slow but constant pace we kept on developing.

I am refering to aMule tarballs of our svn code. You can get them on a dayly basis here:
http://www.hirnriss.net/?area=cvs

Also, take a look at the file "amule_build_install.sh" inside the tarball for instructions on how to compile.

If you have any other doubt, please ask.

Looks like I'll need more help!
When running the amule_build_install.sh  file, I went through a dozen errors. I solved already couples and the compilation goes further but I still have errors:

I have answered in the other thread. To make a long story short, you need to specify the tarballs in the correct order as command line parameters.

This is the first version of the script, maybe I find some time to make it more user friendly.

Thanks, I've got the latest version and see how it goes.

Ok, pleae report your findings. Your feedback is important. Even if you think the script sucks :P

I don't think it sucks, it's just not user freindly even for me who's an ex IT engineer...
What type of feedback are you looking for? errors? or general amule usage?

Any feedback is welcome, from critics to patches.

I know, the script is not user friendly, I did it in a hurry. I will try to make it better in my next time slot.

Thanks for you participation!
