Title: [2.2.5-2.2.6|Mac OS 10.6] GUI bug: Invisible CJK text
Post by: Jiut on October 04, 2009, 05:23:10 PM
Under Snow Leopard any text (e.g. file names) containing CJK characters is not displayed.

File names from my shared files do not display:

Mh, could you please make sure you installed all available asian fonts? Snow Leopard doesn't seem to install them by default.

According to another user (http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=17284.msg93483#msg93483), this happens only on Snow Leopard and our/my best guess is currently missing font support.

The Chinese chars are visible at the top of the second screenshot in the "Name:" box so I don't think that can be the problem.

Well, my explanation was that there are different fonts, some with support for CJK, others without.

When I visit for instance google.cn with Opera, only some Chinese characters will be shown - my browser font has incomplete support for CJK text. The same page on Firefox shows all characters, using a different font.

This doesn't explain why everything is not shown when some asian characters are in the file name, but this gives us at least a possible work around.

A missing font cannot be the reason for missing text strings. If this was the problem, the non-CJK characters would be displayed and CJK characters would be replaced by "?"-signs. Besides, Mac OS fully supports the CJK characters. Version 10.6 does not skip or delete fonts.  :)

I agree. I have installed a full SL with all the language packs and additional fonts and the problem remains.
