Title: Stability trick with A4AF
Post by: UoVoBW on June 23, 2004, 10:38:44 PM
Hi there

I'm an italian user (I know the italian forum but it's empty) and i think i have found a great way to improve stability in the rc3, all by chance (i hope it is said so)

I found that if i set a file on "Move all sources to this file (A4AF auto)" before the amule gets connected to razorback the program won't crash.

I've been testing this strange behaviour for maybe three weeks but i haven't changed NOTHING in my Fedora Core 1 configuration, no updates, libraries and so on.

Actually my mule has been running for 5 days non-stop while before finding this small bug (is it so?) it woudn't last more than 5-10 hours before a crash.

I installed following the howto and with rpm's found on the howto page.

uname -a

Linux electricsheep 2.4.22-1.2194.nptlsmp #1 SMP Thu Jun 17 10:40:17 EDT 2004 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

wxGTK 2.4 (exactly the one in the howto page) and so on

any other information requested?

edit: sorry for my english...

Thank you for the report, which pretty much confirms a suspicion we had about where a specific bug is located. :)
If I'm right, the problem is caused by the source-swapping function, so disabling source-swapping (A4AF) should also fix it. I've currently been running aMule with swapping disabled for 11 hours now, with no bad sources yet. However, I'll need to let it run longer to confirm it.

I really don't get you: aMule DOES crash if the function is not enabled (i have no files with A4AF), and it  DOES NOT if the A4AF is selected for some file!

either i did not understand your previous answer or i havent explained myself

Yes, however, the SwapToAnotherFile is called in some cases, independant of the source-swapping setting. Just leave it to us. ;)
