Hi,
aMule shows, like xmule did, a message box on every start, saying "[code:1]unable to get permissions for [~/.aMule/]server.met[/code:1]". The server list is notably short every start. But the rest of aMule works okay. Could the reason be an old setting aMule grabbed from my old xMule config? Not that it's fatal, but it's surely annoying!
Greetings,
ThoR

what shows you ls -l in .aMule ?
[code:1]-rw-r--r-- 1 deltaHF users 1582 2003-10-20 20:49 server.met
[/code:1]

- The file is always there, when aMule runs and when not.
- The permissions and owner are okay
- I don't have something like ACLs running.
[/list:u]
This is why I am so confused. I seem to be the only one with this error. Can I provide more Infos with little to no debugger experience? An strace maybe?

Mhh... Same problem here!
Impossible to get permissions for file /home/fish/.aMule/server.met (error2: no such file or directory)
What now?

Hi everybody,
I have the same problem here with aMule 1.1.2. On every start it says:
Impossible to get permissions for file '/home/esel/.aMule/server.met'
(error 2: No such file or directory)
In Preferences -> Server I have selected the "Auto-update serverlist on startup".
So it should get its server.met on every restart (which I do after a reconnection to the Net...).
Now, I think, this could be the reason for this error message, because one part of the
programm downloads the server.met, while another part (thread?) is doing
some checking of all required files.
And this part doesn't find the server.met, which is not there...
Could this be the reason? Something like a "race-condition"?
So it would be better, to do the checks after the download of the
server.met...

try those server settings plz:
then close aMule, dl server.met from http://ed2k.2x4u.de/index.html and put it in your ~/.aMule dir, launch aMule ..

I think you're right with your race theory:
On startup my aMule always complains about not having a file adresses.dat in it's .aMule
directory.
After I added the file (with an URL of a server met) I got the same error....
Also here the server.met file is always there with enough permissions.

Yes, I think this is the same problem...
OK, now I try the setting from deltaHF, but I will restart my amule only in a few ours (after the 24h Net-runtime...), tomorrow I will see, if something changes...
Good night :-)

It doesn't happen without auto-download on startup.
Using the manual server list load button works fine.
Random note: I typed a second server.met line into the server lists to fetch on startup box, namely
http://www.esel-paradies.de/server/server.met

OK, I've tried this settings, but the result was, that amule didn't start with it :-(
There was an error-massage like this (I don't remember exactly, but similar to this):
Couldn't get any valid servers
Hmm, now I turn'd back the old settings, the other error isn't so bad, so long as amule run's fine :-)
(but of cause it should be fixed anyway)
