i'm using amuled v2.0.3 on a ubuntu distribution.
so i've got the following setup
amuled (aMule Daemon 2.0.3 using wxGTK1 v2.6.2 (OS: Linux)) is running in background
i access amuled via amuleweb (amuleweb 2.0.3 using wxGTK1 v2.6.2).
the thing is the stats seem to be showing bogus ratings (see attached jpg). my max. download should be around 16kB/s but yet sometimes amule seems to downloading with 200kB/s... that shouldn't be possible since my isp caps my connection at 600kbit/s (=75kB/s)
any ideas whats going on?
bug?
isp?
or amule rocks?

amulecmd seems to be giving me the same stats

Download rate should be equal (or at least near) sum of rates for all files. What is it in your case ? If it _is_ sum of rates, so I suggest you take some network analyzer (ethereal for example) and actually measure your rates.
You may also try to use CVS snapshot and report whether your problem persist.

i´m not quite sure what you mean. if i would manually sum up all the rates for each file i would also get these results that i posted in the images...
anyway your idea with ethereal is good... i´ll try that and post the results

Rates per file are quite accurate, i.e. never reported to be wrong. I strongly suggest ethereal.

alright i ran a few ethereal sessions...
to the set up...
i'm connected over xdmcp to my linux server (which is running amuled), so i had to filter all traffic going to and from my windowsbox. i hope i did this right and the stats were not affected.
attached are the results from ethereal...
as you can see the avg. traffic (up- and download) are around 60kB/s. amule is limited to 4/16 up/download.... so if i deduct the 4kB/s from the 60kB/s my actual download rate is 56kB/s.
this is possible since my isp caps the download rate @ 75kB/s
during this session however, amuleweb was showing a download rate @ 290 kB/s which is bogus.
so 2 questions:
Why isn't the download rate caped @ 16kB/s?
Why is amule showing bogus stats?

Interesting. It looks like amule really misses the mark, assuming you measured it correctly.
so i had to filter all traffic going to and from my windowsbox
How many interfaces your linux box have ? Is it 2 (one into net, other into win box) or only 1 and you have some router in-between.
My guess is that you have some kind of switch or router between amule and DSL modem. amule displaying momentary rate and your traffic is very bursty as a result of buffering in the router.
It would be interesting to see following things: statistics graph as amule see it (amuleweb shows it match better in cvs version) and compare it with graph that ethereal produce.
-
my network setup:
linuxbox---------------
****************switch --------- adsl_router--------- internet
windowsbox---------
(i know the drawing sucks)
currently i'm only downloading 2 files, so the rates are in normal range...
as soon as i get the download rates up again i'll try to compare the amule graph with ethereal's graph...
in the meantime i've attached amuleweb's graph to show how the stats go heywire when only downloading 6 files (ok they are quite popular)... notice how even the active connections (max set @ 250) skyrocket off the charts... the only constant factor is the upload rates :)
cheers for any comments & insights

Queue in your switch and adsl modem are first to suspect list. And amule shows momentary rate instead of running average. That's my theory.

well according to the amule stats my avg. downloadrate is 26.12 kB/s. and i have to say that i haven´t been downloading anything for two days now. speaking of: amuleweb stats is reporting an amuled uptime of 14669 Days 23 hours, when in fact it has been running for 5 days now. another bug?
edit: i have just seen that the uptime bug has already been reported here:

And you should use current CVS's to check if it's ok now.

call me a linux noob but the last time i tried to install a cvs version it screwed with apt so much that after reboot i got a "Kernel Panic" at console prompt rendering my linux install unusable...
this is where i got the cvs from:
http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/HowTo_Compile_In_Debian#aMule_CVS_release
maybe i misread something in the wiki, but i really don´t want to screw up my system with all of it´s package dependencies anymore... it took me 2 days to get the distro up and running again...
one nice side affect though: it got rid of this bug:

alright i've done an ethereal-amule stats comparison over a time period of 25 mins (attached)...
still it seems that i'm downloading more than what i am allowed to (or could it be overhead?), but it's not as dramatic as amule is suggesting with it's stats.
if the switch or router or both are causing these peaks than why haven't other people reported the matter? i'm surely not the only person behind a router/switch. and besides with the same network toplogy emule never suggested stats anywhere near the ones from amule...
(just some comments to the ethereal graph: x-axis: time y-axis: bytes)

To add to this thread, the CVS also has some issue with its calculations. As proof, attached is a picture of todays snapshot.

Hi
I was about to report tihs bug. What a coincidence!
Actually, I already mentioned it:
http://forum.amule.org/thread.php?threadid=7502&sid=
although just as a secondary matter.
amule reaches sometimes a DL rate of 300KB, well above my available bandwith.
DL limit does not seem to have any effect, while UL spped and limit seems to work right.
Cheers
