Another firewall issue (router)
« on: April 20, 2006, 02:50:52 AM »

Ok guys... I'm sure you've seen this question a thousand times, so I'll apologize ahead of time, but I can't find my solution through the search engine, and I'm frustrated.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I think I'm close. I get amule to start up and everything, but I'm firewalled. I turn off the firewall on my mac, but still get the yellow arrows. I've read through some threads and believe that my router has a builtin firewall, but I can't find where to "allow ports", or whatever I need to do. I log in to my routers IP and this is the first screen that come's up:

I'm pretty sure I need to "allow ports...", but where do I go to do that???

thanks in advance.

p.s. treat me like the newbie I am.

You need to forward the ports amule uses in your router. For this, have a look at http://portforward.com/routers.htm.
aMule uses three ports (see Preferences->Connection) that need to be forwarded:
- a client TCP port
- a client UDP port (this is the above port +3)
- and an eMule extended UDP port

You can use the connection tester to test whether the client TCP port is forwarded properly.

Good luck. :)

Take a look at the first link, it's a page that contains instructions for forwarding ports in pretty much every router on the market. I would have linked directly to the specific page for your router, but unfortunately you did not specify which linksys router you have. ;)

Thank you... seriously. I've been looking for that page. I'll check it out tonight.

OK... I'm still having troubles. I'm close, though... real close.

I go to the page you said to> I found my router, kind of (linksys BEFW11S4-VN) - didn't have the "VN" but it's close enough for me to understand> then it asks me to choose the program that I want to forward ports to. Well, "amule" is not on there. Emule is, so I tried that, but it doesn't seem to work.

Anyway, I found out how and where to forward ports, but it's still firewalled. I think because I don't know what to put in the first box, where it says the description. I tried putting in "amule1, and amule2" but it wouldn't accept that when I hit "apply". They went back to being empty. So I tried putting in "emule1 and emule2" in there, and it saved the settings, but it still doesn't work when I test the connection.

Here's what I'm looking at now: HELP?????

192.168.1.1 is your router. You must forward the port to your PC instead :

1 - enable a fixed Ipaddress like 192.168.1.2 on your network settings

2 for rulers amule1 and amule2, forward to 192.168.1.2
